Posted September 12, 201113 yr comment_366171 I have an oil leak at the rear of the engine at the front of the trans. It is coming from above the oil pan, so I am pretty sure it is the rear main seal. What is the best way to replace this seal? What else should I do/replace while I'm in there?Chris Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40753-whats-the-best-way-to-replace-the-rear-main-seal/ Share on other sites
September 12, 201113 yr comment_366201 Not much too it other than drop the transmission, grease the seal and replace it. If you had a ton of miles on your tranny you could replace the input shaft seal, front paper gasket, and rear seal while you are at it. I thought my rear main was leaking, but it turned out to be the side seals so I got that knocked out too.
