brake upgrade questions

hi guys i want some confirmations about upgrade my brakes.

In the front i would upgrade to toyota 4x4 vented calipers with the right rotors.

But is this a straight bolt on swap or do i have to use spacers?

second question; i want to upgrade my rear brakes to disc. found a advert that offers 2 maxima '81 brackets and 2 '79 280zx calipers.

Is this the exact combination to fit? And i gues i have to use 280zx rotors then?

Is there also an upgrade for the back with vented rotors?

Last question.

when upgrade the brakes i have read that i have to upgrade my bmc as well.

I have bought one allready and while cleaning/ renew the bmc the pistonseals broke. I found out that there are repair kits but cant find them anywhere. I have read that they are out of stock in th USA. does someone knows a solution?

Thank you.

regards from holland!

You will find more info on this at hybridz.org I think. My personal take on it is that the Toy calipers are too strong for ZX rear disc brakes, and you end up with a system that is too front biased. I ran the ZX rear disc with the stock front calipers and found that I could get the bias just right with an adjustable prop valve. With Toy fronts and ZX rears I took the prop valve out and still had way too much front braking. This might not be too big an issue on a street car and certainly the rear disc is better looking and much easier to work on, but if you're trying to get the best possible braking, a bigger rear brake setup or smaller front is a good idea.

Most people upgrade to the 280ZX master at the same time, I don't think it is absolutely required, but a stock master with Toy calipers has a lot of pedal throw.

There are vented rear brake options, but really vented fronts solves the braking issues on a Z that is driven really hard. If you look there are options from Arizona Z Car and others that have vented fronts and rears.

Jon, there is also the 240sx rear caliper option as well. They work well with the vented Toyo setup. Unfortunately, the only supplier of the 240sx bracket (that I am aware of) has not been heard from in a while....

As Jon stated, Hybridz.org has all of the information you need for your braking solutions.

I have the zx master with un-vented toyota 4x4 calipers in front, stock rear brakes and an adjustable propotioning valve. Brakes perform great and I was able to balance braking front-to-rear.

Who is selling the rear caliper set-up? I bought a similar sounding set online. The "re-manufactered" calipers were crap and could not be used. Spent a lot of time & effort to figure that out... After finally getting them to work I wasn't satified with the result. Changed them out for the stock rears and have never looked back...
