Posted September 22, 201113 yr comment_367119 Hello! I picked up a 78 280z a month or so ago and I've been working my tail off to get her going. She's now starting up just fine and now I'm working on making her idle steady and accelerate appropriately. So in doing so, I need to know where this line should go. Please see attached. It's circled in red. It's on the driver side of the engine close to the master vac. Any help would be appreciated. Additionally, I circled something in yellow. Any help identifying this part? I don't think it's the EGR valve but I'm not certain. September 22, 201113 yr comment_367120 Welcome! Congrats on your '78 (the best year... although I might be biased)! The "T" circled in red is some modification of the original plumbing. Originally, you should just have that one small line circling around the firewall to the HVAC vacuum stuff on the passenger fender. The doodad circled in yellow is controls the EGR valve. You can download a free copy of the Factory Service Manual at www.xenons30.com. That will describe all the emissions spaghetti for you and show you how it's all connected. September 22, 201113 yr comment_367125 Funkadelik - PM me and I will see if I can get you a copy of my 78 FSM. It is a much improved version with menu-ed hyperlinks, etc. You also should download the 'Fuel Injection Bible' from the downloads link on this website. September 25, 201113 yr Author comment_367280 The part to the right of the yellow circle ended up being the EGR valve. The yellow is something else. I can't recall what I was told. Thanks for your help on the vacuum hose! I've since replaced the hose and removed the 'T'. Thanks again Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40866-vacuum-pipe-exposed-need-to-know-where-it-goes-to-78-280z-stock-engine/#findComment-367280 Share on other sites
September 25, 201113 yr comment_367281 If you had read the Emissions section of the FSM, obtained from the links sent or the offer to send one directly to you, you'd know that the valve circled in yellow is part of the EGR control system. There's pictures and everything. September 25, 201113 yr comment_367286 The part circled in yellow is the B.P.T valve (backpressure tranducer) which is part of the EGR system. October 10, 201113 yr comment_368745 All those hoses look pretty old. I'd replace them one at a time to make sure you get the connected back correctly. Recently replaced all of mine for less than $20.
