What are the top 20 early Z-car modifications considered to be "molestation"?

Sounds like an awsome car, Gnosez! :)

OK, here's my ONLY suggestion of an evil act of molestation:

Anything done to alter a car OF HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE from its historically significant state. That can include putting huge fender flares on a 240 that rode the first boat from Japan, or it can include filling the bullet holes in Bonnie and Clyde's car and giving it a nice paint job. Very few of our Z's have that sort of significance!

I personally believe there's some inherent obligation for someone, somewhere, to maintain historically accurate representations of sufficiently rare vehicles, so to slap a Chevy 350 in even a later model Auburn 851 or 852 speedster would also be an abomination, especially considering those cars were so much about the engine. Our Z's haven't reached that state of rarity yet. Maybe another 50 years from now they will be rare indeed, and the survivors, happily, will be the most unmolested concourse show cars that get trailered around to shows and put to bed every night in climate controlled garages with spotless epoxy floors. :)

  • 1 year later...

I Just revisited this thread and read through it again. It's pretty funny looking back at it LOL! It really wasn't meant to be a serious discussion but I apologize again if anybody was offended.

Moving on, I sat down with Mr. Watanabe at Rocky Auto while I was in Japan last year and I really admire the cool and interesting work coming out of his shop. -See, I told you guys that I wasn't 'anti-modification'. Haha

I hope to see these cars around a long time so if someone makes changes I don't like to see if it means keeping a Z on the road I might want to own later by all means I hope they make the change. I might want to reverse some of the changes. Just how I view it. The car I have now has changes I would never make but on the other hand it is rust free.

I guess I am kinda guilty on my 280z that I am working on...have a Mazda b2200 engine fuse box to replace the old fusible links, changed the hot wire with a single heavier cable, painted my engine compartment a simple gloss gray (spray can to just clean up appearances for a daily driver planned Z), cut off fender flares which weren't done right in the 70s and have replacement panels welded on and working on fiberglassing the welds, made a speakerbox that doubles as a tool compartment for a cd player...not to mention 84-85 300zx wheels, going 240z front end with MSA fiberglass valance. And top it off with planning on repainting with Honda silver.

Im just terrible :P
