Powder Coating Costs

Recommended Posts

I am looking to have my strut tubes, control arms, backing plates, t/c rods, idler arms, calipers, drums etc, powder coated. To do all 4 corners is this a $200 job or $1,000 job? Any input from those who have had it done is appreciated. I am looking at a metallic silver for the strut tubes, control arms, calipers, drums and rods and gloss black for all other parts. I also want whoever does this to strip the 34 year old parts of all rust down to clean metal.

My local powder coater does valve covers for 65, headers for 155-195 and intake manifolds for 125 to 175..

I know this isn't the parts you mentioned, but take into account the surface area needed to be done.

Hopefully this helps

I had every single piece of the undercarriage of my car poweder coated, with the exception of the rear diff assembly, coil springs and calipers, for $300. Pretty sure I got a great deal. Wouldn't even consider painting it for that amount. VERY pleased.

I pretty jealous of how cheap that was for you.. how long ago was this?

It was done about 6 weeks? ago. Very recently. There is a pic posted here when I had it done. It was all blasted to bare metal. I was so happy I took my wheels from my daughters car (very badly oxidized aluminum) and had them done. I picked a color a bit too dark but they came back looking better than new ones ever did for $35 each.

That is Idaho pricing. Here in So Cal wheels run $65+ each to powder coat.

I had all of my turbo engine parts powder coated (pan, manifold, valve cover, alternator fan, pulley, bracket, etc.) and it cost me around $300 to $350 (this was 4 years ago). I highly recommend powder coating if your budget allows. It is much more durable than paint.

I would imagine that you'd be looking at around $500 to powdercoat the parts you are describing.

I found a guy to do the strut tube, t/c rod and control arm in silver, backing plate, hub, and strut/spring cap done in black. All parts had to be cleaned up of a fair amount of rust and had the guy sand blast the caliper and a couple other items. For one corner the guy wanted $130. He started out at $260. Sounds high but to do all 4 corners is sounding like $500. I was hoping for around $300. Maybe I need to get a cheap oven and the Eastwood kit.

Went with the $130 powder coat and finally got the parts and back together. Looks like new. :classic: Now on to the rears. I guess I need to take the little yellow tag off on the SS line.

Looks good interesting color choice. My wife complains about all the powder coating I get done, she said I would powder coat her if she stood still long enough. I plan to get all the same parts done for my car, I hope I pay less than 500 large.

I have a silver Z and rather than go with the standard black, I wanted to bring some color to the suspension. The silver in the strut, control arm and tension bar matches the car. I debated the red caliper for a while and just went with it. I am in quandry with the rear aluminum drums as I am thinking of cleaning them up and just hitting them with clear high temp. I added tokico illuminas and eibach progressives. When you take these crusty rusted parts out and they come back silky smooth - not bad. It does take some $$$.
