So sorry to hear about your dad. Not the best way to get a car, no matter how nice.

Value on old cars is determined primarily by comparison to recent local sales of the same car in similar condition. The classified section of this forum has many examples for you. Check here http://www.datsunclassifieds.com or go throught the Members > Classified Ads link at the top of the page here. Feel free to post an ad for your car as well.

Another popular way seems to be ask $20K, then keep dropping the price until someone finally buys it or you get an offer you can live with. Not very time efficient, but it works.

The main issues to anyone who knows these cars will be rust status and mileage. I'de get that thoroughly evaluated by someone near you who knows how and where to look. Can make $1-2k or more difference in the price. There are many Z nuts and businesses in your area, be assured. Surely someone here will pipe up.

And before someone else says it, there were no "factory" 240 louvers, only dealer installed ones... Same for alloy wheels and AC. (at least in North America)

Thanks Jim for the advice i will look at the classifieds thanks for the condolences as well

yeah my mistake no factrory louvers true, dealer installed ok got it and it does alloy wheel too, no visible rust on fenders or qtr panels but will have it looked at fortunately garaged for 10 years has perserved weather damage

Where can i go to determine a value to price for sale?

My condolences on your father's passing.

Others may have a more informed opinion on this, but if I were in the market for a car, I would discount a car, heavily, that hasn't ran in 10 years relative to one that is in runnable condition. Have you worked on cars, or at least are willing to get a little dirty? If so, I think that spending $100 -- $150 on new fluids / misc. hoses / clamps and an eight to ten hour day working on it, would pay off handsomely in the selling price.

I need to give a prospective car a pretty good drive, a good 30 minutes if I've really interested in it, to get a feel for it and to see if it develops any bad behaviors. Doesn't have to drive flawlessly, but I'm willing to pay more if I think I have a good idea about the devil under the sheet metal than if I don't even know if he exists. I would be very reluctant to give a 30 minute shakedown to a car with decade old and counting fluids in it for fear of either having some break on the drive, or causing damage that would soon become manifest, or simply exponentially increasing the time and effort required to clean all the old gunk out.

thanks chris unfortuantley, i am a mustang guy but my dad picked this 240z for my younger sister years ago. she has moved on and now my dad has passed on, its just been sitting in a garage. It will need a fair amount of work, hoses, brakes, tires etc engine was good when parked, except the webbers were romoved and gone. This could be a project car or a parts car. However all metal is there and interior but yes it will go as a discounted offer?

Nonrunning? Pics will help even more in giving you a reasonable number to expect. Be sure to include a couple interior shots.
