October 11, 201113 yr comment_368943 I saw and touch all the parts at JCCS that Jay commissioned to be remanufactured. They all looked almost like the factory originals. I told Jay that I will be buying some of his parts for sure. November 1, 201113 yr Author comment_370716 Spoke to Arron (sp?) at MSA yesterday. They will exchange the part. He says the original Nissan parts were not of great quality either, due to the limitation of the process. Arne, the entire part is chromed and then painted, apparently just as Nissan had done. Bottomline is that he believes that the quality is as good as an original Nissan part. In that case, I suppose nothing more could be expected. In fact if the quality were better, then I suppose some would have issue with authenticity, but that's another discussion. I'm just looking for something at least as good as original. The part I received was a prototype that was not suppose to be shipped, as esprist stated.I'm guessing that Nissan chose this process for cost. Chrome was probably less costly at that time, and obviously to reproduce the part it would make sense to use the same process. If I knew more about chroming plastic I could say for sure. November 6, 201113 yr comment_371003 Take a look at the chrome lettering on this NOS part, how do you think it compares? OK. Let me clearfy. MSA Shipped out THE SAMPLE by mistake. I contaced MSA right after I saw your thred and found out that it was shipped out by mistake. MSA tried calling you and emailing you, but no response for few weeks. No offense here. So everyone knows that MSA have done their best to resolve the issue. Chrome finished one will be out in December, but you should get the production version shortly if you return THE SAMPLE. Here I have some of the bad finish on a NOS original one. I have 3 of them and they all look like this. 1. Worped. They are not streight. 2. Pitted chrome 3. Over spray of black paint 4. Heater decals are cut and pasted in 80's as they ran out of LHD version decal. (RHD version decal was cut and pasted for US panel) 5. Some of the holes are mess from being taking out from injection mold. 6. There is almost no Streight line. Everyline was wavy. 7. More and more issues if point out! November 6, 201113 yr comment_371004 Here is our Black one. It was measure by hand by every 1 mm, because original was not the quality so that we could digital scan the whole unit. As close as original in every detail but some areas which needed some design improvement. :classic: Edited November 6, 201113 yr by esprist Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40990-motorsport-auto-heater-control-panel/?&page=2#findComment-371004 Share on other sites

May 30, 201212 yr comment_391575 I wonder what the "chrome" process is - especially when the "chrome" is applied. Is the chrome applied over the black? Or is the entire part chromed and then the black is applied over the chrome? Saw this video and thought of this thread. Might be an interesting alternative to real chrome and vacuum metalized processes. Looks easy enough to do, though upstream UK site shows "sold out". Anyone tried one of these newer style silver based paints?http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lG6O5lvhm8 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/40990-motorsport-auto-heater-control-panel/?&page=2#findComment-391575 Share on other sites
