Thanks for your constructive input Blue. She runs quite happily on 1 2 3 as you suggested.

LD 28 cranks are quite sort after down here as well. Some of the race guys are running strokers, and with good success.---$400 US for a crank?:rolleyes:--Lordy we are sitting on a goldmine down here. These diesels came in to NZ in the eighties in second hand Japanese imports, so they were fairly common, but getting scarcer.

Dang you must thank yourself... you did the real work and succeeded! Congrats!

Now from your theoretical 3 cyl. mule to an applied 3cyl. mule:

Your next gas-compressor in your garage will be an L28/2.

Just connect the rear 3 spark plug holes and rear three exhaust plenum out to feed a 1-way valve to your tank. :)

Here is a link to the engine running. Due to excessive bearing clearance, it has a bit of a rattle on start up, until a bit of oil pressure builds up. and it is not as loud as it sounds. The camera seems to amplify the noises.

Hey, FAIW, I bet you could run your cutaway engine much slower with a large flywheel, but otherwise as-configured. You could probably run it even slower with the large flywheel by using only a single cylinder. Maybe you could close down the SU butterfly completely, and drill a tiny hole in it to regulate more precisely at an extremely low idle.

That said, yours is one of the few cutaway models I've seen that I can actually see the parts moving in less than a blur.

Man, that is just plain cool. Not being picky or anything, but is that a sink trap you are using as an exhaust pipe? Looks like there may still be a hair clog that needs snaked out. LOL

Yes it is indeed a sink trap 5thhorseman. Dang it, I thought I had got all that hair ball outa there!!:ermm:

It's actually the muffler( a ball of brass pot scrubber held in with a couple of wires going through the pipe.)

Sarah, your flywheel idea could be good. I don't want to increase the diameter, so would it have the same effect just to add more weight? I could bolt an extra flywheel to the existing one, and that would not effect the starter operation.
