Walter Moore Posted November 7, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 7, 2011 For those who are wanting to add power steering to their car, I just saw a review of a potential source on Jay Leno's garage:http://www.americanonlineimports.com/index.htmlI have no idea if this would work on a Datsun. I have no interest in this my self, and don't plan (or see the need) to add power steering to my car. But I thought of all the discussion and debate that has occurred here over the years and thought it might be worth looking into if you are interested in adding power steering. jmortensen Posted November 8, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 8, 2011 If you're looking for hydraulic, you can't get any better than Woodward. I've bought a rack but haven't installed it yet. I had it custom sized with 1/2" less stroke since my wheels were hitting the TC rods last time it was running, and I got the steering 75% faster than stock, so less hand over hand at autoxes. Requires much cutting of the crossmember to install, not for the faint of heart... http://www.woodwardsteering.com/
240260280z Posted November 8, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 8, 2011 The electric PS bolted to the column on most econocars is junk... cars wander so much and very little dead zone. The only two cars I drove with electric ps (at the rack) were the NSX and S2000. I would like hydraulic systems to stay.
madkaw Posted November 8, 2011 Share #5 Posted November 8, 2011 I like the thread on hybridz that utilizes the Subaru rack and ps complete. Being an owner of a 96 impreza I am impressed with the steering of it's powered rack. It would be the cheapest alternative- but not the easiest. I have a spare front crossmember and have started my venture in that direction.
