Posted November 10, 201113 yr comment_371382 76 280 power will just shutdown randomly. Anything time, any speed. I have to turn it over 5 or 10 times before it fires up. Once it does it runs great until the next time. Could be 10 mi or 100.Temperature not an issue. No exhaust or fuel issues. November 10, 201113 yr comment_371397 When does it lose all power, when braking or stopped? or below certain rpm? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/41298-76-280-shutsdown-randomly-at-any-speed/#findComment-371397 Share on other sites
November 10, 201113 yr comment_371398 Could be the ignition module. More details about before, during and after the shutdown would help. Tachometer behavior, is it a dead stop shutdown or are there a few sputters? Automatic or manual? Etc. November 10, 201113 yr comment_371405 I agree with ignition module. Heat kills them over time. You can verify by watching the tach the next time it fails. If the needle falls faster than the engine revs die when coasting then it is an ignition problem. For a fix, I recommend this rather than buying a new module: http://atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributor/index.html Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/41298-76-280-shutsdown-randomly-at-any-speed/#findComment-371405 Share on other sites
