I am looking to swap my 77 280z bumpers out for some 240z bumpers. I was told the 70-73 240z bumpers are the same an also that the 70-72 240z bumpers are the same an the 73 240z bumpers are different. Was told the 73 240z bumpers are not flush with the car like the 70-72 an the 73 stick out more from the body. Are the 73 bumpers bigger or just have brackets making them stick out farther from the body?

Here are some pics that show differences. The black car is a 70, the blue is a 73.

The 73 has the rubber side fillers, and a metal one in front of the hood. The over-riders are made a little wider and set closer to the center of the hood. The brackets are very heavy & mount on the outside of the fender wings.

While this wikipedia article doesn't explicitly explain the differences in the S30 bumpers, it does give some background on why.

okay just wondering I am going to swap the 77 bumpers out on my 280z to 240 bumpers an found both 72 & 73 240z bumpers for sale an wondered what was the difference in them. An would the override bar from a 73 240z work on a 72 240z an stil look right?

73 bar won't work on a early bumper, I know because (when I still had a front bumper) one came with the car (72 overide bar, 73 car & bumper) and it was too wide.

To be clear on the over rider difference... the 73 front over rider bar is narrower than the 69-72 over rider bar. The bumper horns are moved in on the '73 bumper when compared to the '72. You can see that in Bonzi Lon's pictures.
