Doehring Posted January 7, 2003 Share #13 Posted January 7, 2003 260Z,my Tokicos are non adjustable gas shocks. I forgot to say that I changed all (incl. sh.. spindle pin and bushings) bushings to urethane ones. Lowering the car doesn't mean new problems, but don't forget a good bump stop in case .. ( see my 1st post).Concerning the dimensions of struts, shocks, seats and springs of a 280Z compared to a 240Z I don't know much but there should be differences because MSA (Motorsport) divides in it's catalog into 70-73, 74 and 74.5-78. So be carefulRolf
260z Posted January 7, 2003 Author Share #14 Posted January 7, 2003 Thanks for the info Rolf and guys!I shall be very carefull and even too precise before I do any ordering....I really don't want to order from such a distance before I am absolutely sure what to get....To possibly get all parts needed from a shop here in Finland is why I am trying to seek for also parts numbers...It is such a rare car here in Finland that most shops do not have any clue about the parts. Further more the fact that my car is a US import 260z later edition makes it even harder...What do you guys know about european edition 260Z? Any changes on it's suspension? Was the early spec 260z imported or did they begin 260z import with the later spec car?
260z Posted January 7, 2003 Author Share #15 Posted January 7, 2003 Why is there not any mentions about different lenght or diameter of 260z shockabsorbers/dampers. I could not find any info about inner diameter of strut casing? Or other relevant measures...Only different lenghts and wire diameter of springs were mentioned...And that is concerning front suspension. Rear suspension is same in 240 and 260 according to this manual. This book is Haynes 240z, 260z and 280z1970 thru 1978 coupe and 2+
XYZ Posted January 7, 2003 Share #16 Posted January 7, 2003 For what it's worth my switch out was a direct swap. I just took the old shocks out and slapped the new ones in. There was length difference between front and back but the shocks came labeled front and back so it was pretty easy. I did cut down my bumpstop by 1/2"-3/4" for slightly more travel in the tower but everything swapped straight across. My car lowered about 1.5"-2" also. I think this was because my stock springs were in such good condition there wasn't a lot of sag so the new springs lowered the car more than normal. I don't know anything about the different versions between countries but if it's american made, I would guess as long as you get the correct parts ordered it should go right together.
