Posted November 19, 201113 yr comment_372180 Hello all- I'm a recent first time Z owner. I'm in Fishkill NY. I have pretty much wanted a Z since I was a kid, but for one reason or another never ended up with one. I've been lurking around here since the beginning of the summer when I started thinking about actually buying myself one as a project for my birthday (hit the 4-0 in Sept) . Back at the end of June I finally found one on Craigslist that was local to me ~ 20 min away. I was the first one to respond to the ad and promptly set up a meet to check it out. I've never really worked on cars before, only on motorcycles- so I brought a buddy that was much more car savvy with me to check things out. When we first got to the sellers place - I stared grinning, and was immediately glad to have my buddy along to help me check things out and act as a voice of reason- because I knew I wanted it right away From our phone conversations I knew the Z hadn't really been run in ~ 5 years, and the owner had started it as a project car, but was bogged down with too many other car projects and a new house. The first thing I noticed was that the last registration date on the window sticker was on my birthday 5 years earlier *A SIGN* (to me) My buddy told me not to get too excited, until we checked everything out. The frame was good, the body was mostly good (a few pinholes in the floorboards and a some rust in the front right fender area, but nothing too daunting. The electrics- lights, horn, signals , etc all worked. The interior had been taken down to the metal but the car came with a full set of new interior carpet still in the box, and all the original stuff to put back in. We tried the engine, and it would stumble a bit if w used starter fluid, but wouldn't idle. My spider sense (and desire to own this car) said it probably just needed a little love and TLC and my buddy actually agreed with me - so it was a done deal I've posted a few pics in my album section. Since then I've been giving it a little love and stockpiling little bits to upgrade. My eventual goal once its running consistently reliable is to use it as my warm weather daily driver. Ill post some of the stumbles I've recently encountered in the appropriate forums...
