Posted November 20, 201113 yr comment_372299 Well, it seems my E31 head is too eaten up by electrolysis to be cost effective to repair. I was able to get what appears to be a good E88 head from a friend. Are there any differences I should be aware of between the two heads on an otherwise stock L24? November 20, 201113 yr comment_372303 Should work fine. What to watch for is the exhaust valve size and cylinder wall clearance. Depending on what e-88 head you have you might be taking a step down in performance. The early e88 is the better head. Did you get a price on fixing the e31? November 20, 201113 yr Author comment_372304 Thanks Steve. I believe the head came off a '73. Does that sound right? The price on repairs for the E31 is going to be way north of $700 Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/41418-differences-between-an-e31-and-e88-on-a-l24/#findComment-372304 Share on other sites
November 21, 201113 yr Author comment_372357 So, after searching, if I'm correct, the early E88 head has the same size exhaust valve as the E31? If the E88 I have has the larger exhaust valve, I guess I'll need to notch the cylinder?
