mn91 Posted November 21, 2011 Share #1 Posted November 21, 2011 just picked up a 280z it. it was restored and was the last owner daily driver for about a month before he sold it to me. i drove home with it 2 hrs fine and he had to drive 2 hrs to that location so the z went through a total of hrs of driving.the next day i get into my car and my clutch was real loose like there was no pressure there. i start the car but cant put it into gear. so i shut it off and started the car without depressing the clutch pedal and it started so im thinking i have a stuck clutch! anyway to free this? without going into tranny and all that.and also i have a strong gas smell from the oil. and my dipstick isnt showing that there is oil in the car so i put in a quart of oil and still not showing.. going to change oil soon and do a compression test and hopefully my rings are not bad. any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.. thanks! Bruce Palmer Posted November 21, 2011 Share #3 Posted November 21, 2011 Need more info....Car will start in neutral? Car will start in gear? In gear it'll drive through the back of the garage? Guessing hydraulics are TU..... and not releasing the pressure plate.
Zedyone_kenobi Posted November 21, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 21, 2011 Sounds like you are on the right track. Run a compression test soon. As far as your clutch, it could be the slave or the clutch master cylinder. Check both for leakage.

busted240 Posted November 21, 2011 Share #8 Posted November 21, 2011 For the clutch, have you checked to see if there is any fluid in the master or tried bleeding them yet?
mn91 Posted November 21, 2011 Author Share #9 Posted November 21, 2011 I checked the fluid like you ask and found out there is none in the clutch master cylinder and there is a spot of what seem to be oil but it's clear on the floor so I'm thinking that it's leaking... Is the furthest one to the driver side with one bottle? And the leak seems to be coming from near the transmission...
5thhorsemann Posted November 21, 2011 Share #10 Posted November 21, 2011 Follow the line from that master cyl, it will lead you to the throw out cyl on the clutch, check that for leaks, fill the MC first.

Add some brake fluid. It should help, at least temporarily. You seem to have identified a leak at the slave cylinder (on passenger side, near the starter). To fix the leak you will need to replace the slave cylinder. You should also replace the (clutch) master cylinder at the same time.
SteveJ Posted November 21, 2011 Share #12 Posted November 21, 2011 How much do you want to bet that the OP will need to replace the slave cylinder? If you replace that, replace the master cylinder at the same time. By the way, download a copy of the FSM. It has troubleshooting guides that can help if you take the time to read them.
