Hey guys! Why Z? Because racecar.

Recommended Posts

Well, i guess I've been on here since '09, but that, IIRC, was to sell Don Ahrens SCCA E prod race car for him...

Either way, fast forward till now, and i have a 75, and a 78 280, and just traded my 72 daily driver for a new daily (1995 240SX).

Name's Marshall, 29, i live in Gainesville FL (GO GATORS!!), I've been actively drifting 240SX's since 07, and in the recent months, made the change to Z cars.

You guys probably wont like the directions I'm taking my 75 and 77, but I'll give you all a brief run down none the less...

Both cars will be painted WWII US Army OD Green, with shark mouths from the rear of the front fenders back, and driver name/sponsor logos in the WWII style military stencil. Other graphics will be in a WWII livery, and the overall plan is to have two matching cars, similar in almost every way in appearance. But on to the cars.

The 1975 is my baby, a 90% rust free chassis, mild resto on the engine bay. It also has an uncracked dash I may potentially be selling to run a custom aluminum set up, but that's neither here nor there. the current engine is a F54 L28 block, with forged internals (also suspected to be bored and stroked), an early E88 head with over sized valves, steel valve seats, dual valve springs, and a mild cam. A MSA 6-1 ceramic coated header into a 2 3/4 straight exhaust. The carb set up consists of hopped up triple Weber 40 DCOE 151 carbs with stacks, and n2o ports on the individual runners (inspected all jetting/valves, these have been worked over). Full MSD ignition, and a bunch of other goodies. this car will be a purpose built drift car, stripped and caged with gussets. I'll be adapting a S14 240SX rear sub frame and cross member, so i can use a more "current" IRS, and front steering set up for PS and steering angle mods. not to mention opening up a wide range of suspension options. It will be nice to bring it back from sitting for 10 years, to a full time well maintained/modified and mostly period correct race car.

The 77 is another story, it's a rusted out hulk that was initially being used as a parts car to support the 75, and the 72.

But things have changed since i decided to go full drift/race car on the 75, and forgo my initial plans of a full blown restoration. One of my close friends offered to team up (who happens to own one of the largest machine/fabrication shops in the area), and make it a hornet/bomber class circle track car (a saturday night special if you will), if we split race seat time, as i have a local track not a mile away from my house. GAME ON. The current EFI L28 should prove well to do after a full machine shop service/rebuild. So, i figure it saves the old girl from being a derelict vehicle, to returning to it's 40 year old roots for one last hoo-rah as it probably wont last 3/4 into the race season. Hornet/Bomber class racing is in short, a circle track demo derby race, a "win by any means" style of racing, with cars that are basically pulled out of a junkyard, and thrown on the track. Better for the girl to die racing, instead of rotting away in a field, or yard somewhere (see Jovis "Blaze of Glory" hahaha).

The builds of both cars will be sponsored by a hand full of local companies, with them, build costs should be minimal, and both should be completed by the February season of circle track racing, and the drift season (trying to get licensed this year!!!).

That's pretty much it, I'll most likely do a build thread for those interested in either car, and their progression (and demise in the case of the 77). I've built some pretty nice cars in the past, including 6 or 7 S14 240SX's, 3 S13 240SX's, a 1991 R32 Skyline GTR, and a hand full of other toys, so these two Z's should be no different.

/life story.
