November 27, 201113 yr Author comment_372950 26th-z you have a good point. In the last 24 hours he has learned how to find the ID number on the block, change/gap spark plugs, bleed brakes and replace the throttle return spring. While he was changing the spark plugs he learned the hard way to remove the spark plug wires from the boot and not by yanking on the wire. So then he learned how to repair the spark plug wire/boot. Next he will need to ID the holly carbs and buy two rebuild kits. I'll rebuild one as he learns and he will do the 2nd. After that he will learn how to do the timing and hopefully the engine will run smooth. November 27, 201113 yr comment_372952 Hello, My name is Darryn and (with) my ... wallet ... I am going to the poor house I just know it.Especialy once you get an insurance quote.... 16 yr. old male + Z (Sports Car) = BIG BUCKS / yearAnd once he gets his first ticket (not IF, WHEN) .... BOOOM PAYMENT INCREASE! You may be much better off restoring that car for 4 years and then letting him drive it, it won't be CHEAP then, just CHEAPER.FWIWE Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/41476-going-to-the-poor-house/?&page=2#findComment-372952 Share on other sites
November 27, 201113 yr comment_372953 As a side note, I'm 46 years old and I'm STILL an excluded driver on my parents insurance policy. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/41476-going-to-the-poor-house/?&page=2#findComment-372953 Share on other sites
November 27, 201113 yr comment_372954 take your time getting your Z on the road. Make sure its road ready, and IMO 16 and a car like this is dangerous. November 28, 201113 yr comment_372993 Next he will need to ID the holly carbs and buy two rebuild kits. That's an unusual set-up. I've seen a single Holly replace the dual side-drafts, but not two. November 28, 201113 yr Author comment_373004 My mistake. I thought he told us it was holly but you are correct about it being a Weber. When we go a buy the rebuild kit how do I know what kit I need? Are those carbs stock? November 28, 201113 yr comment_373012 They should be Weber DGV 32/36 carbs. I am not a DGV expert by any means, but that is the typical Weber down drought carb for the Z. Are those carbs stock? They could also be Holley 5200's (Pinto carbs). They will fit the same manifold as a Weber 32/36 DGV and were fairly plentiful back 'in the day'. Hard to tell with the air cleaners on........ November 28, 201113 yr comment_373062 The spot weld breakage on that bracket seemed to happen mostly to the late 73's. Mine also had only 2 not so good welds instead of the 3 that should be there. I have confirmed with quite a few other 73 owner's who also had the same breakage, only 2 welds. If our paths cross, you get the doughnuts, I'll tell you the stories.
