i was wondering how much on average i should be spending on a 240Z if i were to buy one used (, duh) from someone. im hoping to get one in relitively good condition because i want to mod it but also use it as a daily driver. if anyone had some guidelins on what to look for in a (american) 240z that would be greatly appriciated. Thank you.

If you do a search here on this site you should be able to find out all the problem areas for rust on a Z car to look for.

As far as prices, it all depends on where you are, your in luck if you live on the west coast where the majority of good Z's still exist....:tapemouth

before i comit myself i would like to know a bit more about these cars though. i would like to know what all the little facts about a 240Z are like fuel economy and HP and torke and anything else that seems important.

I doubt that there is a huge amount of aftermarket upgrades for Z cars but i would like to know how easy it is to get a restored or conversion or new part for the car incase the shocks or breaks or whatever break.

There are a few places that can get many parts for 240Z's. Some parts are getting harder to find, but most normal wear items such as brakes and struts (shocks) etc are still available from several sources.

I check those out and then see about whether or not to get the Z or not. im not expecting to have all the upgrades like hondas and what not but i am glad to see that i can find parts for it when i decide to pt any sort of performance parts in it.

how relable are 240's

i dont want to be working on my car alot unless i decide that it needs an upgrade. i just wanna be able to drive the darn thing, so if these are total tinker cars that im going to be messing with all the time i dont think i can handle it:(

While Z cars are generally reliable, you have to understand that these cars are anywhere between 25 and 32 years old. They aren't like a Yugo, but things will crop up that need repair unless you've spent $20,000+ for one of the 40 Factory Rebuilt 240Z's, and maintain it. You aren't going to find bullet-proof reliable cars for $2000 to $3000 bucks, no matter who built them.

If you want reliable transportation that will not need repairs, get a newer Honda or Mazda, of course it'll cost ya more $$$$$$$$ and you won't have anywhere near as much fun. Time for a reality check here!

From your posting you appear to me as a young person that is looking for a first car . I maby wrong but reality check here is important . You are looking at cars that are no.1 performance sports cars no 2 they are in the area of 30 yrs old , which is most likely much older than you are . If what you are looking for is a high milage car, that is MPG , dont buy a Z./ If you are looking for a car that is a dependable . That will depend on you and your ability to maintain it . There are alot of avaible items to upgrade the 240 . But they are real upgrades not just muffelers that add 100 Hp and in reality, only just make noise. you can go to geocities.com/2001/engines.html a great deal of information in this area. Really it boils down to Horsepower cost money ! How fast can you spend. Dont expect a free ride. If you do buy one , we are here to help in almost every way . Good luck Gary
