I own an early 1977 280z - the one with the sloped rear deck. I wanted to drop the rear cargo deck to make more space in the back. I have found a thinner replacement spare to fit the shallower area. I also plan on removing the braces that are welded to the floor that hold the rear deck up along with the long brace that stretches the width of the car at the front edge (by the seats) of the rear deck. Next I was planning to buy some 1/4inch or 1/2 inch MDF and create a new floor to compensate for the structural ridges that were added in the '77 & '78 280z (not found in the '75). I was planning on cutting a few pieces of MDF to make the floor level with the top of the aforementioned ridges (no MDF on top of the ridges). My question is this: If i were to buy a carpet kit from MSA, what year would i need and would this work with a normal tail light panel? I'm thinking the 74-76 molded carpet kit since I know the 75 had a flat deck that had carpet on the metal while the 77 and 78 were both raised to accommodate the higher spare due to the larger gas tank. This should help it match the cutout of the shock towers as well as the tail light cover in the back (that i would like to add). Can anyone verify this?

Also, how is the quality of these kits? Should i just invest the money instead with a custom upholstery shop?
