Not exactly. They have cold start enrichment circuits, no choke valves are involved. But yes, they are both cable pull-type actuators. I think the only difference between the two in that department is the direction in which you pull the cable, but I'm not 100% sure on that. If you look at Dave's (cygnusx1) picture, the Weber levers must be pulled toward the hood. I think the Mikuni cables are pulled towards the windshield. Someone with Mikunis can chime in to confirm.

Maybe it's just me, but I like that the factory choke lever still has a purpose.

I am fabricating billet linkage and a billet choke link for triple sidedrafts right now. The linkage is in the classified section. The choke link is in development, and will be available in a week or so. The starter circuits definitely help the engine fire up and establish a smooth fast idle, even in moderately cold weather.

Please PM me when the choke linkage is available for 40 mm Mikuni's. And thanks for everyone's input.

I've never done this type of modification, but I seem to recall that there are LH and RH parts to configure the cold start circuit to pull from either desired direction, depending on your application. I think this is true for both types of carburetor.

I have Mikunis that are configured for LH pull and RH pull - some carbs are installed on the LH side of the engine, and some on the RH side (and sometimes both sides!)

I have never come across Webers with opposite starter circuits. It's probably pretty rare. As for the Mikuni's orientation, I can't say for sure. I will research them.

Aha, thanks Tom! I thought I had seen Mikunis with the pull towards the cabin, interesting that you can set up for LH or RH positions. I haven't seen that on the Webers, but it may exist as well.
