Posted December 14, 201113 yr comment_374363 Looking for any leads into finding an experienced Datsun mechanic in the Baltimore/Washington metro area. Also looking for a good body man to replace floor pans and frame rails. Mechanic in DC gave me a ball park figure of $5K plus to do floor pans...guess he'll be using ivory and whale skin for the repair. December 16, 201113 yr comment_374556 $5K is way high, unless your car has a lot more issues than rotten floors, and frame rails (which it likely does on the east coast!). Parts are about $500 for floors and replacement rails, and 15-20 hours labor, depending on if you do some of the grunt work. You can save yourself a lot of the body-shop's time by stripping the carpets, padding, and especially the rubbery coating on the inside of the floors (dry ice, and a hammer work great for that). Price of Ivory and whale skin what it is though......................Good luck! I visited there once. I don't think he's the right person to do the work, but he probably knows a body man who could do the work. December 20, 201113 yr Author comment_374993 That's the guy that quoted me "no less than $5000"....$500 in parts and 20 hours of labor...$225/hr, not a bad living. I give you an A for effort, thanks for the quick reply. December 20, 201113 yr comment_375019 Hey, Mike does great work. I've seen some of it up close. I knew he'd be expensive. That's why I was hoping he'd refer you to someone else.
