spray bar gasket?

Anyone notice that the holes in that billet bar are located farther away from the cam than the original bar?

So I'm guessing that nobody seems to think it matters at all?

Does anyone care that the holes in the original spray bar do not shoot out straight horizontal, but are in fact angled down a little on purpose?

I watch the oil flow on every used Z I refresh to ensure no clogs.

At idle is more of a dribble/weak flow but at higher RPM I assume it is a fairly pressurized stream (As it has been mentioned that oil pressure varies from 10psi to 90psi from idle to high rpm).

I would guess that for the street where idling occurs a lot, having the close oiling would be required to ensure oiling of the cam lobes when the car sits and idles for up to an hour, however for a race car which is usually at higher rpms and with higher pressure/volume oiling system, the distance from the oil bar may not be critical.

I ended up taking the spray bar off and blocking the holes with the MSA block off plates. There seems to be lots of consistent oil pressure and if I carefully take off the oil cap at idle I can see a bunch of oil flying around in there. I put the engine back in the car and it runs fine. I've put a couple of hundred miles on it and rechecked the valve lash. No change or any visible issues with lack of oil.

I will say that the valve train is louder than on other Datsun engines I've heard as you can see in this video.

The cam is a mild track unit from Rebello. I lashed it at 0.010 cold, measured at the lash pad as per Dave Rebello's instructions. This equates to about 0.007 at the cam lobe. I assume the louder than normal valve train noise is due to the increased lift from the higher performance cam. Has anyone had experience with this sort of cam?

I would be more comfortable with that extra 1/2 inch of distance than I am with that rickety a$$ stock spray bar. I wouldn't be concerned with the angle of the spray holes either. The holes in the billet bar could be drilled at an angle to compensate, I don’t know.

Yeah, me too. That's what I meant about how it doesn't matter how far the holes are from the cam if the tubes fall off, right? :)

And you're right about the holes in the billet bar... They might be drilled at an angle. I don't know either. Seemed weird to me when I was looking at my rickety stock bar, but the holes are angled downward. If anything, I would have expected them to be angled a little upward to increase their range, but I double and triple checked... They point down, not up. It's not much, maybe ten degrees below horizontal?

I'm well into my spray bar redesign and reconstruction. I'll take some pics and stuff and try to post them if things turn out right.
