Posted December 16, 201113 yr comment_374612 Hi folks, I've owned three Z cars, a 73 240, 78 280 and a 79ZX, all manual transmissions. Loved the cars, my nickname back in the 70's was "Z-Chuck". Had some of the best times in my life with those cars. I'd like to get back into a 280 Z and that's why I'm here. December 16, 201113 yr comment_374633 Welcome casterguy !! I understand where you are coming from. I had a 73 240 back in the 70's and just bought a 74 260. I am trying to get it road ready now. I can't wait to drive it. Good luck with your search. There is a wealth of information on this site, and lots of folks willing to share it. December 16, 201113 yr comment_374639 Why a 280 over a 240 or 60? I read almost every S30 post on this site, and it seems to me that the 280's EFI system is the source of alot more problems than the early carburated cars suffer from. Just wondering why you're thinking of a later car. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/41659-former-z-owner/#findComment-374639 Share on other sites
December 16, 201113 yr comment_374643 He's owned two EFI cars in the past. He's probably not afraid of the EFI. I'm not. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/41659-former-z-owner/#findComment-374643 Share on other sites
December 16, 201113 yr comment_374644 I had a 280 myself, sold it back in the 80's, I was just wondering why he prefers the 280 over the 60 or 40, or why he is limiting his search to the 280 only. Considering the comparable simplicity of the earlier cars. December 16, 201113 yr comment_374659 I can't really speak for the OP but, having owned both 240Zs and 280Zs as well as an 810 coupe, they they both have their +'s and -'s. From my personal experience, I think it takes more money to purchase and maintain the earlier cars. YMMV.
