lady24d Posted December 24, 2011 Share #1 Posted December 24, 2011 (edited) Well Merry Christmas to me after a 12 hour round trip finely picked up a 73' 240z and a 76' 280z. I'm not new to the z but am new to the 240 and 280's. I currently have a 1990 300zx na which I am in the process of restoring in class. Next will be the 240z. I'm sure ill have plenty of questions since I'm not to familiar with the straight 6 so its gonna be a fun learning experience. I'm finally going back to school for auto body thank god cause I love it I have always been into cars ever since I was able to walk Well I have a lot of reading and work to do once back from my Christmas Vac. Here are a few pics of the cars and don't worry more to come as I slowly work on her. Edited December 24, 2011 by lady24d

steve91tt Posted December 24, 2011 Share #3 Posted December 24, 2011 I started with a 90's 300zx myself. You are going to love working with the simplicity of the straight six after dealing with the over engineered, computer controlled powertrain that was shoehorned into the 90's Z's. Looks like you have yourself a great project. Can't wait to see your progress. What are your plans? Straight-up restoration or something else? lady24d Posted December 25, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted December 25, 2011 Thanks guys yeah much simpler indeed and as far as what's going to happen in not sure if I wanna rebuild the original motor it do a hybrid v8 conv. Still tossing the idea around and reading. As far as the body goes kinda going for a more sports look yet sleek nothing outrageous just nice and clean. First things first got to get it running then slowly work on the body until I get more room in the shop or the garage. The orange 280 ill try and get that one running and then sell it. If not then ill either parting it out or selling it as a project car.
lady24d Posted December 30, 2011 Author Share #6 Posted December 30, 2011 Well a little update. Got back home and started working on the 76' 280. The guy I bought it from has not touched the car for a few years and same with the other owner previously before him. Looks like the last time it was down the road was in 1997. So I Drained the fuel tank, oil, and coolant. Took the valve cover off and spun the engine by hand, spins nice and all valves open and close. Got a new battery and fluids. It turns over nice but does not start so there is def. Hope for this z seeing the road again. Now just gotta check the fuel pump, filter, lines, if everything there checks out then to the sparks. I'm reading all about the fuel pumps and such but have not run into how to really test the pump. It's just myself working on this so I don't have anyone listening to the pump. Any advise would be great. I'll be reading more tonight.
lady24d Posted December 31, 2011 Author Share #7 Posted December 31, 2011 Got the 280 to fire up but stalls within a few seconds. Installed a new fuel pump but was not getting any gas so I had to take the gas tank down main line is plugged up so I was not getting any gas. Stuck the hose from the pump into a gas can and primed the pump and the filter and bam fired right up which was sure nice to hear her run for those few seconds. Now I have to see why it stalls right after start up. I checked the airflow sensor and held the flap open thinking maybe the fuel pump is shutting off after I release the key when it starts but that didn't make any difference.
