Now THIS is how you design a new car with a bit of retro styling and make it an attractive car!

Guess it might be time for Nissan to start thinking about hiring a couple designers from Ford. This is the best looking Mustang in nearly 30 years if it goes into production. Hopefully they did as good a job on the interior as they did the exterior, which has been one of the biggest downfalls of the Mustang since the 80's.

Too bad Nissan could meld the old with the new in the 350Z the way they did with this car. :ermm:

2manyz's, you are absolutely right. That car looks good. Reminds me immediatly on Steve McQueen's "Bullit"-Mustang. The 350Z reminds me on an AUDI TT and here I would prefer the TT Quattro Turbo - depending on the price Nissan will charge here. The last 300 ZX Twin Turbo was more than 55k $$ here. If they have a similar price policy with the 350Z it will be a rare car on our Autobahn!

I'd have to agree with Michael on this one....looks like an Explorer that has been "pancaked" at the salvage yard. Next stop for this one should be the smelter.

Note to FORD: Toss this idea, and start over with a clean sheet of paper!

That looks a bit heavy and clumsy. OK it does have amazingly something on its face that is 65---mustang. But it is not as agressive looking It is too soft to be Bullit.

Oooopss...I cahnge my mind partially!! Just went into my favourite design site. I am a design student so new car designs are one big interest for me. http://www.cardesignnews.com/autoshows/2003/detroit/highlights/h08-ford-mustang.html

I must say that these pics make more justice to this car!! It does actually look pretty mean and sporty!! I dont know about those tail light though!! They could be a litlle smaller!!

I do think that US car design is healing!! In my opinion it has been very sick since mid sixties!! First climpse of light was shown when Viper came...Then PT cruiser.....I hope it gets to same level as it was in 50's and in some indivudual cases 60's and 70's....49 merc is fine and so many of those good oldies...

The fords Fortynine concept is nice too...Is it coming to production?? Somehow it reminds me of the Barris or who??(correct me if I am wrong) Sniper which was I think 49 ford with huge customizing and Viper engine!!

Oldie woodie?!?Wierdo!!This looks like a robots face?!?

I kinda like the Cadillac v16 concept!!

As an owner of a 66 Mustang and a true Ford enthusiast, i would have to say hooorayyyy for the new design! It is at least an attempt to get back the original design, unlike Nissan. However had Nissan stuck with this design (see pic) i would have been very very happy.

I have never seen that concept before, but THAT IS WHAT A Z IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK LIKE!!!!!!!!

Sure wish someone in Nissan had the smarts to build this car. Assuming it didn't end up overweight like the 350Z, I'd hock my eye teeth to buy one.:D

I myself like the look of the new Mustang concept, but not the convertible one. Only the fastback. Now that is the way you bring back old styling into a new car. This concept is a direct decendent of the late 60's fastback Mustangs. Great looking car!!! 2 thumbs up to FORD!

The pic Zlish posted is a 350Z I would actually be waiting in line to see and/or buy....

I like the Mustang's front view and rear view, but looking at kmacks pic, I'm not so sure I like the high beltline on the car that well. The window opening is just out of scale with the rest of the car. The fender flares are large, as are the wheels(maybe a bit too large) and then you try to look inside and all you have is a tiny little window opening... One of the biggest downfalls of the Fox body cars has been its upright, tall greenhouse, while this one may have gone a little too far in the "downsizing". Kind of reminds me of an early Z, the window opening looks to be just about even with most drivers shoulder....

Still a lot better car than any of the Fox body cars, that's for sure.

The front reminds me of the Shelby GT-500 in a way, while the hood has an Aston Martin look to it.

If I had a choice between one of these and a 350 as the grand prize in a sweepstakes? Hate to say it, but Ford would win.... and I've only owned one Ford out of all the cars I've owned.

If I had a choice of either ( the existing 350Z or this concept Rustang) as grand prize in a sweepstakes.............. I'd toss a coin, because I'd be selling either one and buying 2 really nice 240Z's. A restored original and a V8 conversion similar to Pete Paraska's beauty.
