First Gen Z Posted April 13, 2005 Share #16 Posted April 13, 2005 Cold chisel and 2 lb hammer. Not the easiest way but if all else fails it works. Just be careful not to beat up the crank bore.
Bambikiller240 Posted April 14, 2005 Share #17 Posted April 14, 2005 what do you do when that bitch REALLY doesn't want to come out?How have you tried to remove it so far?Is it a bronze bushing, or a Steel Roller Bearing?
e_racer1999 Posted April 14, 2005 Share #18 Posted April 14, 2005 bronze bushing. i tried with the clutch centering tool (and grease) and with a socket and extension with grease....
Bambikiller240 Posted April 14, 2005 Share #19 Posted April 14, 2005 bronze bushing. i tried with the clutch centering tool (and grease) and with a socket and extension with grease....Although others have had good luck with that method, I have not. As mentioned in other posts, I use a small chisel and a hammer, AND A LOT OF CARE. I gouge two grooves into the bushing, avoiding damaging the crankshaft and then use a small screwdriver to "pick" the pieces of bushing out of the hole in the crankshaft. It seldom takes more than 10-15 minutes to accomplish, but CARE is more important than SPEED when I do this.Good Luck, and take your time if you try this method
beandip Posted April 14, 2005 Share #20 Posted April 14, 2005 If your slide hammer has a puller , just use one and pull it that way . What Bambi said about the grease and socket works , what he dident till you is that the socket you use must just slide into he hole . so when you put the socket on the extention backwards it makes a sort of plug and when you tap on the extention the grease forces the bushing out . I would use the chisel as a last resort. gary :rambo:
Bambikiller240 Posted April 14, 2005 Share #21 Posted April 14, 2005 I think that was explained earlier in the thread. Post #8 If you don't want to try the hammer and chisel method, pack the bushing with grease, find a socket that just barely fits into the bushing. Install the socket backwards on an extension, then tap (hard) the socket into the grease filled bushing to compress the grease and force out the bushing.I have tried it multiple times and it's never worked for me, but I know several people who have had success with it. So it's worth a try, but it doesn't work for everyone.I'm so used to the hammer and chisel method that I don't even bother to try the other method anymore. Once you've used the chisel method a time or two, it's no longer a worry as you know the pitfalls and you simply avoid them.
e_racer1999 Posted April 15, 2005 Share #22 Posted April 15, 2005 ya, i did the chisel and hammer method. WORKED!
ecp48 Posted April 15, 2005 Share #23 Posted April 15, 2005 Use a pilot bearing puller. Two arms slide into the bushing, crank down the threaded retainer and use the slide hammer to pull it out.
