280z non running car value.

I went and looked at 2 1978 280z's this afternoon. Forgot my camera so no pics. The 1st car hasn't run since 2008. Has a large rust hole in the rear hatch sill, some rust thru on the passenger side fender in the engine bay. That's all I could see. Dash is cracked, seats need upholstery, interior parts are there and in fair condition. Engine is complete. I'm looking at this as a parts car only and is worth around $500.

The 2nd car has lots of new parts, including a perfect dash, good seats, aftermarket radio, new radiator, new hoses, new AFM boots. Owner claims that the car has 50k. The problem is that it took a hit on the passenger side door, crushing the rocker and door. I looked at the frame rail, it looks ok. The windshield is cracked on that side, so I'm assuming that the frame may have gotten a little twisted.

The owner was asking 4000 for both, I said in the 2's. He's fixated on the injectors as he had them installed at a Mazda repair shop and They charged him a little over 1k and he is determined to get that money.

My opinion is that this is worth 1500 to 1700 as the parts are excellent.

Is it possible to cut the needed pieces from the parts car and weld to the damaged car and get the frame straiten. Would this be expensive?

Just wondering what you would pay of this?????

He's on crack. Move on. The injectors cost $50 each tops, as low as $25 each. It's crashed. You can find a plethora of decent 280z's that are not crashed for $3000. If the windshield is busted I would suspect the car is tweaked as you have. I'd offer him $1500 for both.

Thanks for the response. Just to let you know I went looking as I want a parts car to complete a 280z that I have. Having all the major parts, I am looking for a complete car for all the little stuff that would be needed.

Agreed on the $1,000 and that's assuming good, current (or non-op) titles on both cars. They are both parts cars. A hit on the rocker panel (which is the "frame" in the middle of a S30) is generally fatal.

I offered him 1700 for both or 500 for the parts car. He came back with a trade offer that I can't do. I told him my offer stands.

I just got an email counter for 1900 which means the deal could be done for 1800.

So you're offering $1700 for two parts cars? For all of the little parts. Asking because if you read through the thread the conclusion seems to be that the first car would be the driver (it ran [drove I assume] in 2008) and the second car would be the parts supplier (it's totaled).

What year is the 280Z that you currently have? Some major items changed in 1978 so they might not swap over to your current car.

I think the consensus was that both cars where worth $1000-$1500 tops, so you are still too high. And while you are thinking you can sell parts and make a profit, remember that is a lot of work for little return. It will take you forever to sell those parts, pay shipping, eBay fees, then you still have to dispose of the car in the end. A lot of the parts you will have to find local buyers for, engine, tranny, etc...

Chiming in...... not on a bet! One is a $200 parts car, the other one, which is totaled, is worth the value of the wheels. $500 for the pair. You will be looking at 2 grand for body work, another 2 for paint, another 1 in incidentals. Parts are worth almost nothing. A few dollars here and there, but essentially nothing. Buy a running driving car for $4000 and enjoy it.
