Buying first Z! NEED HELP

I know you must be really jacked to buy this car but sit back and read this first. I like all the early z's but the only thing wrong with buying a 260 is they only made this car a couple of years before they moved on to the 280 and they made a ton of those, so if you buy the 260 a lot of the parts won't interchange with the 240s and maybe not even the 280s. Parts are becoming more and more scarce, then add the fact that your car is more rare than the 240s or 280s and you could be in trouble when trying to find parts. I have had a lot of early 240s and if it was up to me now, I would buy a 280 and make it look like a 240 (skinny bumpers) 280s had a much better ride

Actually, most 260Z parts are interchangeable with the 240Z or 280Z. You just have to use the parts catalogs (insert plug for ClassicZCars parts CD here) & pictures to figure it out. For some parts, you may have to get creative to adapt a part, such as adding a spacer to mount a 240Z hood release cable. Parts availability isn't really a reason to pass on a 260Z as opposed to a 240Z or 280Z.

This is exactly what I was going to say, so thanks Steve! Most parts interchange with either a 240Z or 280Z. There are plenty of free resources available to cross-reference and find the part you need. I love my early 260Z, it has a certain quirkiness to it which I enjoy. Plus, it has the nicer 280Z interior but the lower weight and electrical simplicity of the 240Z.

Just a quick note, the North American market is the one that only received the 260 for one year, other markets DID receive the 260 for more than one year, and if memory serves it's the 280Z (not ZX) that's rarer outside the NA market.

I'll stand corrected, but that's what I recall reading here someplace. Alan?

I've tried to find something clean like this. Everything in So-Cal (SD, OC, LA) are either too expensive for a POS, or expensive for a restored one. I'll keep on looking though, that's for sure...

(car I was interested in and posted pix about I believe sold. I offered $950 and he never responded. Owell LOL)

Hey garofalory, i know you said you did not want a 280 however i know where there is a sweet looking 280 in carlsbad that has rod knock, that you can get for really low price $500.00. Running, no rust, check out member nix280z. Just a thought in case you change your mind.....
