motorman7 Posted March 11, 2016 Share #61 Posted March 11, 2016 Just a thought on the zinced engine bolts. I do a lot of my own plating and have been plating for years. Most of the time the parts come out great. The problem with nuts bolts and washers as you mentioned is that they are a lot of work and difficult to clean, especially on the wire wheel. My fingers are always trashed after a long session of part prep for zinc plating. So, for the engine bolts, an alternative is to contact Eiji at sales@datsunspirit.com and get the whole engine set of bolts. The quality is also a bit better than what you can do at home. This is what I will be doing for my '71 restoration.
Zup Posted March 11, 2016 Share #62 Posted March 11, 2016 I'll second what Rich said! Eiji's package of engine bolts is the cats meow---I used them on both of my Z's and new fasteners really look nice! Jim D. "Zup"

73str86 Posted October 17, 2016 Author Share #66 Posted October 17, 2016 (edited) Long overdue update. The rear suspension renew and overhaul was a success. Everything was sandblasted and painted with VHT Roll Bar and Chassis paint. Tokico Illuminas and Vogtland springs (I wanted to give them a try). 4:11 open R180--I love it. The five speed is very nice as well...I need to stop forgetting that I have that 5th gear! I will post more photos from my phone. Funny story. As soon as the rear was buttoned up I went on three joy rides with 18 month old gas. All of a sudden, she wouldn't run. I suspect I got water in the distributor at the car wash. She was down for a few weeks. I went through 10 reman Cardone dizzies before I got a good one. I decided to upgrade to the 280zx distributor while I was replacing it anyway. 10! Now, I've logged another 40 miles or so. She's a blast. I refinished (amateur) a set of Watanabe RS-8s and these will most likely never come off of the car. She will be parked again for a clutch master cylinder (does anyone have a source for a larger bore?) and the clutch slave. Engagement is very weak, even after bleeding. After the clutch parts, next will be a retrospec front air dam and a 432 rear spoiler. Edited October 17, 2016 by 73str86
grannyknot Posted October 17, 2016 Share #67 Posted October 17, 2016 Looks really good, 10 dizzies? Did you just keep returning them until you found a good one? Tilton makes a clutch master that is slightly bigger and a direct bolt on but a new stock unit should do the job unless you have modified the tranny/clutch pack. Hardway Posted October 17, 2016 Share #68 Posted October 17, 2016 Great Update! I just now got around to watching the video. I look forward to you getting some driving footage once everything is together.
73str86 Posted February 13, 2017 Author Share #69 Posted February 13, 2017 I've put a few hundred miles on her in this gorgeous Colorado winter. The clutch is really soft, and I have a huge to-do list, but every 30 minute drive is glorious. I will have to do the clutch before any autocross or drag racing.
