February 13, 20178 yr Author comment_512713 A dead fuel pump left me stranded one day. Surprisingly I was able to limp home. With 2 day shipping from Amazon, she's back on the road. March 1, 20178 yr Author comment_514090 Some updates: - I have another failing mechanical fuel pump. $16 cast unit from Amazon. - I picked up a two owner early 260z from NM to resell (yellow). She was purring like a kitten within an hour of getting home. - I stumbled upon a "rust free" 72 two owner California car (white). Cleanest underside I've ever seen. My 73 may go back to stock and be sold in order to keep this one. Most bodies are very clean or very ratty, one or the other. March 27, 20178 yr Author comment_516490 I've been chasing a fuel starvation problem both at starting and WOT. I suspect it's vapor lock a result of 80 degree temps at altitude. It's time to put some heat resistant tape back on the fuel rail. March 27, 20178 yr comment_516494 I've been chasing a fuel starvation myself at WOT. It showed up before my engine swap, but I was able to make the carburetors richer to compensate. Now that I have a 2.8 with higher compression, I have the SUs as rich as I can reasonably make them. My fuel pressure is low, though. You may want to check fuel pressure to verify whether or not that could be contributing to your problem. April 17, 20177 yr Author comment_518248 I do now believe it is vapor lock due to the elevation and recent temps in the high seventies. I triple wrapped my factory fuel rail with Thermo-Tec this morning and switched spark plugs to match my E12-80 dizzy. My recent plugs were a perfect brown shade. I was very happy with their appearance. I decided to take her up Pikes Peak last week. What a blast. The 15,000+ foot summit was closed due to weather, but I made it up to around 13,500 feet. I hope you enjoy the photos. I am very excited to be getting a baseline dyno tune for my engine this week. $80 for three runs. My plan is go with run 1 as-is. On run 2 I'd like to crank up the timing and see the results. And following that I'm considering turning the mixture nuts an extra 1/2 to 1 full turn richer for the 3rd run to see if she wants more fuel. Thoughts? April 17, 20177 yr Author comment_518251 My only work to be done before the dyno session is to replace some heater hose bypass caps that are starting to show their age. Unless you folks have any other recommendations?
