Posted January 26, 201213 yr comment_378767 Hey whats up /z/? I just recently bought my Dad's old 240z off of him and so far loving it.. Don't really know much about cars so heres my problem.. Everytime I press on the brakes its makes a REALLY loud screeching sound. My brakes are not dying because my dad recently got new brakes about a couple months ago. Maybe they installed them incorrectly? How do I stop this horrible noise which causes embarassment? January 26, 201213 yr comment_378772 Are the brakes OEM/stock? Get an FSM. Make sure the pads/calipers are installed properly. There may be an anomaly or the pads or rotors could be bad. Spend a few minutes with the car on jack stands to look it over. January 26, 201213 yr comment_378797 Clean al the parts. The load bearing surfaces of the pads and calipers where the pads slide (the thin edge fo the pads) need to be clean and lubed with a high temp grease (sparingly). Most auto part stores have a special brake grease for this. Also, make sure the back of the pads are clean and that you have the thin sheet metal shims that go in between the pad and piston. Some pad materials will be noisier than others. It you cannot quiet the pads you have try a different brand of pads.
