Posted February 12, 201213 yr comment_380546 I had to replace the master cylinder and one of the rear wheel cylinders on my 70 240. While bleeding the brakes everytime my wife pushed on the pedal the rear wheel cylinder moved fore and aft maybe a quarter of an inch..other side that i didn't replace did not do that. Is that normal, I am sure I got it back together correctly?Ward Fogelsanger in Gilbert, AZ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42256-rear-wheel-cylinder-question/ Share on other sites
February 12, 201213 yr comment_380549 Did you install the two u-shaped retaining clips on the back side of the wheel cylinder? If so, they may not be installed correctly. The silver colored clip installs with the opening toward the front of the car and has two raised bumps on the back of the clip. The gold colored clip installs from the other direction with the opening towards the rear of the car. It has two small holes that fit over the raised bumps on the silver clip, which locks the cylinder in place.-Mike Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42256-rear-wheel-cylinder-question/#findComment-380549 Share on other sites
February 13, 201213 yr comment_380600 a quarter inch seems like a long way, but the wheel cylinders do slide back and forth during operation. The cylinder is single sided. It presses against the front shoe, and the equal but opposite force pushes the cylinder backward into the rear shoe.I suspect that the pads on that side just aren't adjusted out far enough.
