Rebuild Transmission tool - Harber Freight 6 Ton A-Frame Bench Shop Press

I'm thinking about rebuilding 71B 5Speed tranny before swapping with my automatic tranny.

In order to rebuild tranny, I'm thinking about buying shop press.

Datsun ZCARS mentioned 12tons press, but I was wondering 6 ton is good enough for it.

That is a bench top model. You need a floor model.

I have that press in my garage. I've used it to do u joints, hub bearings, and various small to medium duty jobs but I'd want something larger for a transmission. Fortunately, my son has the 12 ton press.

Can you explain what this is used for on the tranny? I rebuilt mine and remember using a bfh and some pieces of pipe and got the job done. A brass drift and a gear puller--those are a different story.

I thought I need shop press when pull a part from the largest shaft. It's around 14:53 on the video.

Looks like I don't need shop press.

Good videos! Wish there were some audio commentary explaining what is being done, but otherwise good. These should be linked/saved for future access by others doing their own rebuild. I have done a couple rebuilds without using a press, but if you have access to one, it makes life easier. If you have a few pieces of pipe, etc, some patience, ingenuity, and time, you can do it yourself. The last one I did, I bought the rebuild kit with bearings, synchros, gaskets, etc for about $150 from Autozone, and knocked it out in a weekend.

I got mine at drivetrain.com. Surprisingly, the price is up about $35.00 from last year. Still well worth it.
