Posted February 19, 201213 yr comment_381306 I am installing the Roadster seatbelts from Wesco into my 1971 240z. I had the MSA shoulder belts in and did not like them at all.My question is about he upper mount to the retractor end. I'd like to know what people do there. Spacers? Short bracket to get it facing in the right direction? Simply bolting it into the hole at the top of the pillar doesn't seem to be right. Thanks all.mark Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42332-wesco-roadster-seatbelt-install-in-71-240z/ Share on other sites

February 21, 201213 yr comment_381611 I have the Wesco belts in my 73. I mounted them with no problem. I used the "L" bracket for the upper and bolted the retractor behind the seat on the lower mount. I have had them for 5 years now and I am very happy with them. February 21, 201213 yr comment_381635 Be careful what you install in your car. Installing an inertia reel can actually increase the kinetic energy seen by the mounts. If the mounts weren't designed for the load, a failure may occur. Upon impact the vehicle slows down, however you continue at the same velocity; thereby increasing your velocity with respect to the vehicle over time. By the time the inertia reel locks, your relative velocity will likely be higher than if you were wearing the stock 240Z restraint that was hardmounted with no reel. Furthermore if you install an inertia reel into a car incorrectly, it may not even lock upon impact. Check the condition of the restraint material as well.Remember that Kinetic energy = 1/2 * mass * (velocity squared), so a change in relative velocity can dramatically increase the energy at which you strike something in your vehicle or the force exerted upon you by your restraint. February 21, 201213 yr comment_381636 '71 doesn't have the inertia reel pocket behind the seat.It most likely doesn't matter. The Wesco belt retractor doesn't sit in the pocket. February 21, 201213 yr comment_381637 It most likely doesn't matter. The Wesco belt retractor doesn't sit in the pocket. Then it matters that you'll back your seat up against it.
