KAL7467 Posted February 23, 2012 Share #1 Posted February 23, 2012 Is a refurbished brake booster from a 280z at Orileys or Autozone a direct replacement for a early 240z with the smaller booster? Since I have everything out for paint I noticed the booster is very corrodid and seems to be the original. It may have been leaking, so i think it would be best to replace. Will there be a benefit to using the larger booster besides the fact I can not find the small early ones for as cheap?
spitz17 Posted February 23, 2012 Share #2 Posted February 23, 2012 The holes through the firewall will not match up. You'll have to measure and drill through the firewall, and I would use some insulation to block off the holes. I did this conversion, and it is very straight forward. If done right it should be a clean outcome.
KAL7467 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted February 23, 2012 thanks a lot. Hopefully Orileys will have the 8" booster in stock when I go to pick one up. Did you notice any more assist in your brakeing from the larger booster?
jfa.series1 Posted February 23, 2012 Share #4 Posted February 23, 2012 Don't overlook getting your original booster rebuilt locally. It may be a wash on $.Jim
spitz17 Posted February 23, 2012 Share #5 Posted February 23, 2012 thanks a lot. Hopefully Orileys will have the 8" booster in stock when I go to pick one up. Did you notice any more assist in your brakeing from the larger booster? It is hard to say because I upgraded to Wilwoods all around, and a Wilwood 1" Brake Master Cylinder at the same time. I have seen people say it is a worthy upgrade though, and that there is additional brake assist.
KAL7467 Posted February 23, 2012 Author Share #6 Posted February 23, 2012 looking at the grungy old thing makes the decision to replace it easy especially since i have spent the last year grinding scraping and cleaning every other parts on the car during the teardown. also if it gives any better brake response than the tiny unit that came in the series one cars I am all for that also. thanks again for everyones input
conedodger Posted February 24, 2012 Share #7 Posted February 24, 2012 Last I checked rebuild parts were available. As for the body, blast, paint, powdercoat = beautiful...
