Steel thickness difference for 240z and 280z

When I went to junkyard, I found 280z 2x2 with beautiful front fender. My '72 240z has dent and rusted. Also it seems like the steel of 280z fender thicker than 240z. When I lean on the my 240z, the fender seems like vending easily.

Does anyone know whether 280z fender uses thicker steel metal than 240z?

Also, will 280z 2x2 front fender match with 240z? I know 2x2 is longer wheel base and wonder Datsun use same parts with coupe or not.

Thanks,

When I got my 280Z, the old-man neighbor (an "expert"on all things cars) knocked on the fender and immediately told me "You have at LEAST 1/2 inch of Bondo on here!"

Wrong. There was a good layer of undercoating on the underside of the metal, but there was no Bondo.

FYI, in case there is undercoating and it makes you think the metal is thicker.

280 & 240 fenders are different. Notice that 240 fenders have a "cut-out" for the inspection covers while 280 fenders are wider and do not have that cut-out.

Hmmm. My '77 has "cut-outs" or a notch at the rear corner for inspection lid(s). Black Dragon lists a pn for left and one for right, all years 70-78, as does carpartsmanual.com.

I know that a '77 fender will go on a '73 because I did it. There are was an extra bracked on the inside of the fender, toward the front. I'm not sure what it was for but it came off at a right angle to the fender and had a nut welded onto it.

As far as thickness, its a bit scary that the metal is so thin that undercoating can actually stiffin it! I know the sheet metal on my Z is significantly thinner than that on my roadster.
