Posted February 26, 201213 yr comment_382163 I have a very peculiar noise, sound like SIP,,,,SIP,,,SIP it is intermittent , seems to came from the rear and appears when I make left turns only. In my mechanical limited abilities I sanded down the rear brake shoes and drums , the both look fine no evidence of rubbing, this SIP...SIP...SIP is making me nuts .My car has a complete suspension refresh done 4k ago, bearings, rubber bushings, struts plus a complete brake job, lines and MC, the exhaust system is also refresh and is not rubbing.:disappoin Edited February 26, 201213 yr by 72 OJ Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42424-i-have-sip-sip-sip-noise/ Share on other sites

February 26, 201213 yr Author comment_382168 I will have them examine ,,,,,but what bugs the crap out of me is that this noise comes and goes, the brakes are fine , firm, no vibration or pulsation ,no pulling to one side. February 26, 201213 yr comment_382169 The shoes have a bunch of play and movement in them, turn your radio up and ride on. Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42424-i-have-sip-sip-sip-noise/#findComment-382169 Share on other sites
February 26, 201213 yr comment_382170 Are you running hubcaps?Sounds just like the noise my 73 made when the "grippers" on the outside edge of the hubcap had loosened enough to let them slip ever so slightly as I drove.Took the hubcaps off all wheels, sprung the "grippers" just a little to make better contact with the inside of the rim and reinstalled. No more "sip-sip-sip".Took me a week to figure that out!YMMV---FWIWJim D."Zup" Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42424-i-have-sip-sip-sip-noise/#findComment-382170 Share on other sites

February 27, 201213 yr comment_382263 My turn for a guess.Rear brake dust shield/backing plate bent or dinged ever so slightly contacting the brake drum, coupled with a slightly worn rear wheel bearing to give it the flex it needs to touch in a left turn.... February 27, 201213 yr comment_382307 I was going to say the same as Jim. I've had a dust shield get slightly bent and rub only when turning one way. February 27, 201213 yr Author comment_382330 Thanks for responding to solve this odd mechanical issue, I will check the dust shields for any bents and also the wheel bearings for premature wear.
