A new coil was recently installed, and it is too small even if the clip is fully closed. I put two hardwood pieces that I painted yellow in for spacers. Would this work for now as I get other issues dealt with?

Also, I am not sure what this wire is for… any comments or help would be great.

I think that is for your engine bay lamp////check with the pros,,,to close to the coil....

Wrong side of the car, the light is on the side opposite the coil. Mine was wired to the coil, don't remember where, but the electronic ignition dosn't require the condensers.

Actually, that wire should go to ground from the condenser/capacitor shown. The factory setup connects to a bolt on the distributor. Probably to damp electrical spikes (noise) from the distributor. A good idea to connect it as the factory did to reduce the odds of damaging your ignition module or ECU.

You coil setup should work, mechanically, as long as it doesn't fall out. The coil is usually matched to the ignition module though, so the new coil may not be as "Super" as the label implies.

Edit - 5th, I think that they moved the lamp to the driver's side in later years. My 76 has it in that vicinity. But, as stated, it should have another length of black wire going to a distributor mounting bolt.

Zed Head nailed it, I just looked in my retired parts box and there it was, labled "coil bracket" on the terminal side. Good one.

That coil will be fine as long as it's secure. As far as working with the electronic ignition, I ran the larger Accel Super Coil in my 78 for the 12 years I owned it w/no problems. That condenser is referred to as a 'radio condenser' in the wiring diagram. There's a black wire that comes from a tab under a screw on the disributor mount and plugs into that open bullet recepticle
