Price - How low is too low?

Hardway

Recommended Posts

It's a little bit disingenuous to suggest a value for Hardway's car when you obviously don't like the 280Zs. You're just taking the opportunity to trash the 280Z style: "find someone into the 280s", "no curb appeal". Why even respond if they're not your thing. Especially Healey Z, who drives a Healey!

Hating is not pretty...

Edit - the post was intended as a reply to #2 and #3. But still, if you don't like 280Zs, you can't really judge their value to someone that does..

He asked for an opinion, in no way was I trashing 280s, just giving my opinion on what I would think the value is and considering many people feel the same way as far as the value in the 280 vs 240. The original poster even stated he would rather have a 240. I suppose I could of just said "Oh man, that car is worth at least 5k the rust and bodywork just adds character to it", but then again that would not of been a true response considering he asked for opinions.

I got my 75 280 for $2500, running well with some well hidden rust and so far have put another $6500 in it doing a lot of stuff in the "while I'm here" area. I've learned to weld, cut and repair panels, paint, do weather striping, use a rotory buffer, fab parts and it was well worth the $. I know I can't get $9000 for my car but I don't care its been fun (and frustrating at times). Nothing like learning new stuff!

How much money do you have in the car already, and how long have you owned it? If I didn't have a ton of dough in it already, and I got good use out of it, I would not worry about how much I sell it for. Put it on ebay with bidding, to see what it's worth. However, DO NOT start a refresh project on that car. You will be wasting your time and money. I am not going to put a number on it, but I am going to tell you NOT to put any more money into it. That's my advice. Find a cleaner chassis, unless you are a great welder and painter, and have lots of free time.

240/280 I don't care what the badge says. Common sense applies to both.

P.S. Consider parting it out to maximize your profits.

The car has sold and I actually got more than the $2800 I had originally expected from the previous interested party. The buyer who is a paint and body guy wanted a good running car and did not mind the rust repair ahead of him. Sounds like it is going to a good home and hopefully he will post up his progress as he saw the ad here. Thank you to everyone for the comments. Now the 240z hunt begins!
