I have a place to speak in this argument. I currently live in Buffalo, NY and Chicago ain't got s#!t on Buffalo for salt!!!

GIVE IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! pant pant pant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is NOTHING you can do!

Oh actually there is...

You can put in in the garage untill the salt is actually washed off the roads! April is a good time!

There are alot of undercoating sytems and companies out there.

They are too messy! Don't bother. Also there are alot of underbody carwashes out there, Wont do enough to matter. Put it in the garage/barn/storage. Please do not murder your Z! Japanese sheet metal does not do well in the northern winters, plus RWD suck in the snow anyway.

winter = snow = rust - means your Z sits happily wrapped under a nice blanket, ie car cover of good quality.

or it sits in its nice protective garage.

i cant see why anyone would wanna take any classic out on the road in the winter!!!

Ain't no winter snow in the SF Bay Area! We generally dry out from rain quick enough to minimize the opportunity for rust. Still, once my car is repainted, it'll sit out the rain storms under cover.

Yep, the only thing worse than a Buffalo winter is an Ottawa winter (actually, I think Buffalo does get more snow than us, but as for salt..... I dunno).

Anyway, if you have ANY intensions of keeping the car for longer than 2 seasons don't drive it in the winter. The '83 I got last fall had rusted through the front fenders (where they meet the front valance) by 1985!!! I know because the second owner (who I got it from) bought the car in 1985 and had no idea that it had rusted and been repaired by the original owner. I only found out when I started tearing it down this winter.

There is an upside however :). I've found that I really, REALLY, appreciate my Z more when I haven't driven it for a few months. Sometimes I'll just go and sit in it in the garage and make 'vroom, vroom noises :).

And that also explains why Z's in good condition in the Rust Belt sell for such high $.

Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, New York and that whole area are besieged by nasty snow, ice and sleet storms all the time. Urea is too expensive to use, and if you've ever encountered a sheet of black ice on the road at high speed, even if you hate salt, you appreciate what it does.

Unfortunately, Salt + H20 + Steel = Rust.

You could invest in thousands of dollars of undercoating, inner wall rustproofing, car washing the outside and the underside of the car everytime you drive and you would never beat the rust genie. (Ever wonder why the Zeibart and other ~RUSTPROOFING~ folks have a LIMITED warranty on their product?)

Park it. Drive it in spring, summer and fall. Nuff Said.

FWIW Nate, a Z goes pretty well in snow....

When I had my first Z it was the only vehicle I could afford at the time and we had a 28 inch snow storm here in VA. I was one of the only cars out on the road the day after the storm and only got it stuck once, got it body hung on a pile of snow..:stupid:

Here in VA they use a lot of cinders and gravel chips instead of salt, so instead of rust you get a sandblasting for free...

I agree, winter is a good time to put it in the garage and do some of the work you didn't want to take the time to do while you were having fun driving it in the summer.....:rolleyes:
