Old barn find 1970 240z series 1 in decent shape mfg date 2/70 lowest mfg month 907

Hello All,

I love z cars but I acquired this 1970 240z manufactured in 2/70 lowest production month for the z. it has been repainted once original color paint code is 907 british racing green. it's got the rear window defogger that goes vertical instead of horizontal the correct emblems. there is rust it has been sitting in back field for 15 years. prod. # is like 1611 or close to it. has the speedo that starts at twenty etc. my question is this is it desireable enough because of manufacturing date etc to sell to someione that want to restore it or and i hate to say this am i better parting it out. i mean the chrome is perfect thepassenger seat is near perfect drivers is okay rear interior the padded parts over speakersa etc is perfect needs carpet. has panasport wheels 79k original mileage. i have two sets of carburetors head and ill be damned the thing started after new fuel unbelievable. so is it wooooooooorth more in parts or should i sell? i have to much to do. title is clear no accidents please advise. thank you,

You've described the things that can be seen - all relatively inexpensive fixes. You mention that there's rust. What's the condition of the things that aren't as easily seen - like battery tray area, rocker panels, all fenders, suspension, exhaust, floor pans, transmission, dash? Rusted panel replacement could be the difference between a parts car and a restoration project.

2 in as many days of "too good to be true Z finds" by newly joined members w/ zero posts to their credit?

I PM'ed the other one (2x 240's w/ low miles and NOS parts) about three times but have heard nothing in return.

If it's too good to be true it probably is, but then...

...nothing is too unbelievable to not be true.

I want to believe!!!!

They are probably new posters because the discoveries were the impetus to join, so that in and of itself should not be cause for disbelief. Hey, if the VIN says "1611" then that should be what it is (unless a digit is covered up).

It would be too bad to just part the car out, but as we all know, the finished product will be worth about 89% of what it takes to get it there.

I will go take some pictures here on my lunch when i referred to lowest production month there was only 950 about total manufactured in 2/70 and these are rough numbers but i believe it was around 5,300 first half of 70 and 12,000 second half let me see if i can find it in my files here's the 69 stuff. Some points of interest about the 69 production year cars:

#HLS30 00006 was a Bob Sharp Racing car.(later driven by Jim Fitzgerald as BSR Race Car #38) This car is today owned by Dr. Allen Robbins of Sharp Site Racing in Onterio NY. Still raced in Vintage Racing Events.

#HLS30 00007 This car is today owned by Ron Cooke of Las Angeles, CA.

#HLS30 00008 was sold to Bob Speckman and campaigned by him - as an SCCA C-Production Car - #14. This was the first Z Car to go 24 Hours at Daytona and finished first in class, and 7th over-all. This car is today owned by Dr. Tom Bork of Rochester NY. This car too, is still raced in Vintage Racing Events.

# HLS30 00013 is the first Regular Production 240Z Sold to the Public. It is today owned by Rick and Cathy Morgan.

According to NISSAN MOTORS OF USA, it is very unusual for any production cars with serial numbers below 00025 to be sold to the public. The first 25 units are usually held at the factory and disassembled for process and quality inspections or used for Safety Crash Tests etc.

Engine serial numbers (originally installed in cars located to date) range from L24 02079 (installed in HLS30 00042) to L24 3260 (installed in car HLS30 00587).

THE 1970 production was a little slow to get started i believe around 5 or 6 thousand produced first half of 70 about 12 thousand second half total of around 17 thousand feb. was the lowest production month in 1970 less than a thousand and that is straight from the nissan plant i will get the exact info and post a few pictures.

There's plenty of knowledgable 240Z owners (and maybe even former owners) here in Oregon who might be willing to look at the car with you to help assess it's needs and values. Where in Oregon are you?

Ya know, basically life is an auction, and Z values are based on what it's worth to you and can you find someone out there thats willing to give you that ammount. I have had folks offer me much more than I paid for the car, and enough that I could buy one in better condition, but not enough to make the search for a replacement worth my time.

It all boiles down to what the car is worth to you.

In ALMOST any case you can get a bigger pile of money by parting a car out. Similarly, in ALMOST every case the time you spend and the buttheads you have to deal with to part a car out, make the sale of a complete car a better deal to the seller. Let the other guy deal with the headachs, take the money and run like hell.
