I will soon be combining a 72 240 (automatic) and a 71 240 stick shift to make one good vehicle. Does anyone know if the automatic is a more rare option, and possible more valuable to go this route. I don't want to sacrafice performance though. Thanks.

Rare yes, but desirable and valuable, no. Do the swap.

In my humble opinion, if it is an automatic, it aint really a sports car!

My '72 240z is automatic. I will convert to manual soon. Not so much fun to drive automatic with 240z.

Thanks, actually it will mean less work to keep the stick, so that will be my plan.

When I study Automatic to Manual conversion, it's not just replacing transmission. I learned that distributor, radiator, starter motor are also different between auto and manual. There might be more... I'm still studying here.

I appreciate that. I will leave the stick shift where it is in the 1971, and use the 1971 as the car I will drive (eventually). I will use the automatic vehicle as a parts source, if needed.

I'm getting ready to do a tranny swap as well. I picked up a 5-spd to put into my recently acquired 260z with a slushbox.

There are 3 switches on the tranny. I've identified the backup switch and neutral safety switch. I've been looking over 280z diagrams trying to identify the last connector. Anyone know what it is?

Not sure about your radiator. My 260Z setup has the A/C radiator separate from the engine cooling system. So, I guess the radiator would be the same for auto or manual on mine. (??)

Rockauto has the just about any part you will need: master/slave cyl, rubber hose, release bearing, pilot bearing, F/R seals. I needed a clevis pin for the clutch pedal which I got from McMaster (5/16" x 1")

Oh, anyone know where to get rubber boots for the clutch fork/arm and the shift? I keep only finding CV boots in my searches.

Doh. Found the inner shift boot easily at the Z-store. Maybe my luck will hold and I'll find the one for the bell housing...
