I have and engine on the floor and want to mount it on my new engine stand. What is the size bolts that connect the engine to the bell housing of the trans ?? The engine and stand is at my son's house 1 hr away , I know I can jack up my car and pull one out , but I thought if any one knew I could just bo buy what I needed. Thanks Gary

The bolts are 10mm. Nearly all the bolts that I have found on the 240Z are the standard metric thread pitch, so I suspect it is a standard M10 bolt.

You will need bolts that are longer than the ones that hold on the transmission, but exactly how long depends on the engine stand. I wound up having to buy 70mm length bolts and stacking washers on them to get enough threads in the block without bottoming out the bolts.

Be sure you get at least class 10.9 bolts (the metric equivalent of SAE grade 8) or class 12 (which is stronger) because you are going to have 600+ lbs hanging on those 4 bolts.

Have fun! Be careful!

(one or the other if you can't do both...)

Boy I tell ya what a time for this post. Only two days late. Yes get the strongest bolt you can find. I was just moving my motor from my shop back home. We left the top of the stand on the motor and took off the lower part (legs) and after we get the motor home we pulled it out the back of the truck till we could get the legs under it while on the tailgate. so far all is good. We lift the stand and motor up and pull it out from the truck bed and set it down on the driveway. No big deal.

I grab the stand and start rolling it. the first crack I hit put enough bounce in it that the top two bolts broke. Thank god there where two others with me that saw it start going down and where strong enough to slow the fall enough that nothing was broken or cracked.

I will just call it the luck of the unlucky that nothing broke other then the bolts. :finger:

Are they the same as the head bolts , as far as threads? I wint to the main source in Portland, Parkrose Hardware , and picked up four 12mm and four 14mm the 10mm looked too small , when I got home I looked at the posts and find I need 31/2" 10mm. However now I have a question on the threads ,I called my son tonight and he said that he thought the threads were finer than std. One thing I found out that they are vary proad of them like $3.55 ea for the 14mm . and .92 ea for washers. $32.56 for 8 bolts and washers . I will say I was in sticker shock. I'll take these back and get the 10mms but now I wonder about the threads. 10.9 is the hardest I found , and they have a hell of a selection , if I can get 12s I'll get them. Gary
