hi guys.

as some of you may know, i've been searching for a coupe for a while, and so when one came up interstate on gumtree i called the man and talked to him about it.

he told me that it didn't have much rust at all, interiors was immaculate, ran fine etc etc etc.

all sounded well so i (stupidly) bought the car unseen.

it took about two months for the car to get to me in adelaide from him in cairns for a number of reasons, but once it got here i was very disappointed to say the least.

the car has a LOT more rust than he told me about. and the rust that he did tell me about is a lot worse than he made it out to sound.

the interior is not 'immaculate'. it's nice but not complete and definitely not perfect.

i'll upload some photos in the next few days as i am still quite angry and have just put the car under a cover and don't want to look at it.

i'm still deciding whether or not it's going to be too much of a project for me.

i'm going to wait until the end of the month before i make up my mind, at which point i will advertise it for what i've spent on it so far.

Looks pretty rough! Worse than my one was I reckon. It's a killer I know, I feel for ya mate.

On the plus side the interior looks pretty good. You could always part the car out. If you do happen to go down that path I'd love to snap some parts up :)

i have next to no skill when it comes to body repair and so i wouldn't be able to do the bodywork myself which pretty much writes this one off for me.

how much should i sell it for?

i just had an offer of $3300 but the guy is going to ship it to kuwait and i paid more than that for it.

suggestions?

I'd be saying take it or push it and ask for 3.5~3.7 only cos I'm cheaky but TBH cut your losses keep some chrome bits and rare bits (they can afford to remake them over there) and get a new one.

unless your a mad fabricator or are rich as, this car is not worth it...

Thank is unfortunate.

Did the seller put in writing that there was minimal rust?

If so, could could try and either take him to court or at the very least place a letter of demand on him.

Looking at the pictures, there is rust in terminal areas like the roof and engine bay. It would take a specialist to resurect it.

Keep the auction on ebay - you never know. But be honest about it in the comments.

Good Luck. (But still sorry to see it happen)

Swarf, are you sure you don't want to hang on to it and wait for a better shell?

I know it then becomes a long term project, but could potentially save you from losing a lot of money on the whole caper. As you know, I've been searching for a good hardtop forever (so have you), they're very hard to find, but project cars pop up on a regular basis...I could probably put you on to a better shell in SA, even the track car for sale has a better body (I've seen it in person). Worth consideration?

Sorry to see it didn't work out well on the face of things, and I can understand you wanting to ditch it, but I think you could use it as a parts car for another project and turn the whole thing into a positive...if you're willing to take on the project. I'm not willing to take on a project, that's why I've been looking for years! You can either jump back in the queue or work with what you have.

Cheers,

Duane

Too late?

Adam...how's your's going man? I was so stressed I missed out, but great it stayed in the family!

Yeah good, I've got a build thread going at the moment.

Slow process, I'm fixing bits as I pull them out. I'm working on the pillar trims and arm rests now. I've got a snapped front drivers side pillar trim that I'm going to try an repair. It's tricky though, the plastic is incredibly brittle.
