dltalfa Posted March 22, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 22, 2012 I'm considering painting my 72 240Z a bright blue color, similar to a Viper Blue,...or the blue on the new Toyota FJ's.Has anyone done this,...and if so,..do you have pictures? I need to actually see one of our Z's painted this color before I do it.

Bonzi Lon Posted March 23, 2012 Share #3 Posted March 23, 2012 I think I'm thinking of Nissan Daytona Blue. This is a Daytona Blue sitting by my 73 with '1991 Mitsubishi Fiji Blue Metalic' basecoat/clearcoat, with extra metalic and added pearl. They look real close together. 240260280z Posted March 23, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 23, 2012 FJ Blue looks like 1990 Miata Blue.... kinda like it on miata and brit cars like TR5 but not on Z. Chrysler's Viper Blue and Nissan's Daytona Blue look fab on Z's Then there is the great "Stonehenge Midnight Blue" Or you can go for an early 240zblue which is between miata and viper blue
cygnusx1 Posted March 23, 2012 Share #5 Posted March 23, 2012 I like the light blue idea. Bugatti is probably the "father" of the color. Alfa, BMW, Toyota, Porsche...and of course the 370Z all come in a nice light blue non-metallic. I think the Z looks great in that color.
northernz Posted March 23, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 23, 2012 I definitely prefer a dark blue on the zed. I may be biased, but I will be going for the original 903 blue on my '71 .Some time in the future of course!

Bonzi Lon Posted March 24, 2012 Share #8 Posted March 24, 2012 (edited) Do not go completely by the color you see on your computer screen, there will be slight differences, but it will get you close to what you want. Go to a paint shop to look through their color chips, be prepared to be overwhelmed by the shades, tones, saturation etc... Or go to plenty of car shows to look around and talk to the owners of the colors you like. If you can get a bird's eye view of the show it looks like an Easter basket. Bonzi Lon P.S. Mine is the blue one. Edited March 24, 2012 by Bonzi Lon
Rainman Posted March 24, 2012 Share #9 Posted March 24, 2012 I chose Nissan Monterrey Blue for my 260Z... The 370Z comes in this color. I like the way the color looks different as the amount of light varies as you can see by the two photos. Thought I'd throw my 2 cents into the discussion..
