January 15, 200322 yr comment_23368 I have read these bolt on Z's, anyone know if they are worth while? Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4283-r160-lsd-on-e-bay/#findComment-23368 Share on other sites
January 15, 200322 yr comment_23370 They aren't quite as strong as the 180, but if it is for just a street only car it should work OK. A lot of 510 racers update to the 180 for a little extra strength in the ring and pinion and bearing size. It would be OK if you don't plan on too many 5K launches or too many autox's.... Be nice if that was a Torson as some of the Subie's came from the factory with them...even if it's a clutch-type it's better than not having an LSD:cross-eye Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4283-r160-lsd-on-e-bay/#findComment-23370 Share on other sites
January 15, 200322 yr comment_23371 thanks 2ManyZs, do you think it would take 200 - 350RWHP (p.s. before you say get an R200, R200's are very very very scarce over here, where as there are endless 4WD turbo Subaru's) Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/4283-r160-lsd-on-e-bay/#findComment-23371 Share on other sites
January 15, 200322 yr comment_23372 I doubt it would hold up to that much....:cross-eye An R-180 might not either.... But, if you say there are a lof of 4WD Subie's, have you checked to see if there are any R-200's from the Subie's? I think there were a couple models that had the R-200, as I was told the Torson in my R-200 I have came from a Subie.... I don't know much about Subaru's so I can't tell you if they did or didn't have an R-200 in any of them......But it might be worth a look... January 16, 200322 yr comment_23418 WRX's use the R180, Liberty/Legacy's used R160's.Bear in mind that there are many WRX's pumping out 300+ HP throught the factory R180's (or the STi LSD if you've got the $$$).Also remember that the matching of components should be spot on - since Fuji Heavy industries owns Subaru. January 17, 200322 yr comment_23589 It says in that auction in Ebay that the diff will bolt on in -73 240 Z . How about -74 260Z? Any knowledge about subaru models that used these diffs? January 17, 200322 yr comment_23596 Sure it will work in a 240, 260, 280Z, 280ZX or anything that currently takes an R160, R180, R190 or R200. From what I have heard the trick is getting the right output axles so that you can attach your Z/ZX half shafts or CV joints. Example, If you have the 4 bolt flange type diff now you would need Datsun 510 R160 flanges to bolt up to your R180 or R200 half shafts. Hope that makes sense!?Also, the bolt holes on the back of the R160 and R180's are smaller than the R200. So you should be okay here to swap with a R180 but if you swap with a larger diff you would need to modify or change your rear diff mount, mustache bar for us first generation Z folks. I have read that a LSD diff is stronger than the comparable open diff. And that a LSD R160 would be stronger than a open R180 diff.So which Subaru's come with 3.9 or 4.11 LSD???Hope it helps!
