Victor Laury Posted January 15, 2003 Share #1 Posted January 15, 2003 I have one last item to renew to rid my engine compartment of the nasties. The grommet the wiper harness passes through, on the firewall. Mine is just a dried up lump of what may have been rubber at one time. None of the Vendors seem to carry this.As anyone replaced this piece? obviously, I will have to pull the unit and unwrap it from it's protective bag. Un-hook the harness and thread it through.I'd like an orginal Nissan piece but if anyone knows of something that will work in it's stead, please let me know. I replaced the grommet with one that I bought from Andy Russell from Chandler, AZ It is not a Nissan item, but fits fine and looks very similar to what I remember the original looking like when it wasn't trashed by 30 years of heat, etc. You can contact Andy at z@datsundude.com The cost was a bit high for a rubber grommet, but since it was the only thing I could find and looked right to me, I paid the $18 and now I don't have to look at that UGLY lump of semi-rubber that was all that was left of my original.FWIW, I didn't pull my wiper motor, I just removed the cowel to gain room (and wire length to work with), I then released the "pins" from the connector, pulled the wires back through the old grommet and firewall, popped the new grommet in place and pushed the wires back through the new grommet, then re-installed the pins in the connector. Be very careful that you don't break the pins when doing this! Good Luck!
Daniel Posted January 15, 2003 Share #3 Posted January 15, 2003 TIP. Put a piece of string around the grommet groove.Put the ends of the string thru the firewall hole. When the grommet is put in place pulling the string will pull the inner rubber into the firewall hole. Daniel, That's awesome! You can contact Andy at z@datsundude.com The cost was a bit high for a rubber grommet Thanks Carl, After my post I looked around a bit and found that Banzai has them for $13.50. Looks like it's a done deal.
