April 10, 201212 yr comment_386792 Hey everyone...shipping Z's is something I've learned a little about recently (see my avatar). A couple recommendations...make sure your carrier has its own insurance. And...ask to see their policy. Be very sure they are insured. Also, know that while in transport, your car is considered carGO, not a "car," so book and NADA values won't matter to the shipping company's insurance if something goes wrong...they'll only insure it for what you paid for it...or it's value in steel...or how many tuna cans they can make out of it...or something else that won't help you find another one. So....make sure you also have personal insurance on the car (collision & comp) as well just in case something happens--even if it's just for the trip. What happened to me (car fell off the carrier) is extremely rare, but it sure did teach me a few things! April 10, 201212 yr comment_386799 What will you be driving to MI? When I moved from TX to OH, I pulled my Saturn on a flat bed U-Haul trailer behind the U-Haul truck. I think the one-way trailer rental was $125. My Saturn was about the same size and weight as a Z. A pickup or SUV could have also easily towed the trailer. You can (very tightly) tarp the car if rain is a problem. April 16, 201212 yr comment_387203 I sure wouldn't use a tarp over any car being carried on an open trailer, whether that trailer be a commercial hauler that can carry 9 or 10 carsor a small one-axle trailer being pulled behind your DD. No matter howtight you try to stretch the tarp, it is going to get air circulating underit to some degree while the rig is in motion. It will flap up and downand destroy the car's paint. Even such a soft cover as a fleece lined car cover can scuff up a paint job pretty well, much less a coarse tarp. Then again, you did say that you were going to completely strip her down and rebuild her, which I am sure means a repaint as well, so itis all a moot point. Nobody mentioned duct tape to seal up the placessuspected of potentially leaking. Duct tape doesn't last forever, but itshould be a decent stopgap since it sticks well and doesn't leak.Just thinking out loud.....hope it helps you a little bit......All Z Best,..............................Kathy & Rick Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42889-shipping-z-cars/?&page=2#findComment-387203 Share on other sites
