Captain Obvious Posted May 7, 2012 Author Share #13 Posted May 7, 2012 Looks great. Did you do the cad plating yourself, or did you send it out?
240dkw Posted May 7, 2012 Share #14 Posted May 7, 2012 I did it myself with the Caswell kit
Mikes Z car Posted May 7, 2012 Share #15 Posted May 7, 2012 My car needs this mod as did the 240 I had back in the 70s. After the modification is done can you still get wide open throttle with the gas pedal pushed far down or is there something else I need to do to make sure that happens?Mike
LeonV Posted May 7, 2012 Share #16 Posted May 7, 2012 Check the throttle blade with the pedal wide open. Adjust the pedal stop as necessary.
tlorber Posted May 7, 2012 Share #17 Posted May 7, 2012 Another thing you can do is to bend to adjust the various pivot points within the line. By INCREASING the radii of the "driving" pivots, and DECREASING the radii of the "drivin" points you can smooth out the overall throw in the system. Mikes Z car Posted May 8, 2012 Share #18 Posted May 8, 2012 Thanks very much for the information. I wish there were a way to do a temporary fitting to get the welded on angle correct the first time.Mike
280~Master Posted May 8, 2012 Share #19 Posted May 8, 2012 I have replaced the shorter linkage with some linkage from a Mercedes. Its all metal and very easily adjustable.
bartsscooterservice Posted April 1, 2013 Share #20 Posted April 1, 2013 I also still have this problem, when driving away, it's hard to get moderate rpm increase for driving away.. Is the problem the linkage 240dkw is describing above? I'm trying to understand why there is a dead point in the gas pedal on low rpm...I suppose it worked well when new from factory? FastWoman Posted April 1, 2013 Share #21 Posted April 1, 2013 Well, there are a LOT of joints in the mechanism, so you have to adjust out all the play. When you just start pressing the pedal, the throttle should just start to move. You maybe need a TINY bit of slack to ensure the throttle closes completely at idle.Another problem could be a lean mixture. Your engine will bog just a bit off idle if it doesn't have enough gas in the mix. Beyond that, I don't know much about your carbs. This is your '71, right? FastWoman Posted April 2, 2013 Share #23 Posted April 2, 2013 You're probably going to get better answers in the carburetor section. If the throttle mechanisms on your carbs JUST start to move when you JUST start to depress the accelerator pedal, the problem is not in your throttle linkage. ZCurves Posted April 3, 2013 Share #24 Posted April 3, 2013 What about switching to a cable like modern cars?? I vaguely remember that someone in the club did that.... time to search.
