Posted April 16, 201212 yr comment_387280 That is about the best way I can describe the scenery at this year's Targa California Rally. We did hit some rain, which made a bit more challenging drive but the roads and the views were spectacular. I believe there were 5 Z's overall out of 110 cars. This year I managed to avoid the mailboxes that plagued me last year. Still not sure why they needed to be placed on railroad ties. While 911's were clearly the predominant car, there was a good selection of nice older metal along the way. I realize that some of this scenery is probably routine for some of you, but for those of us that are stuck in the city, it sure was nice to get out and be in the rolling hills. Overall it was a lot of fun, the car ran great (only issue was a detached muffler hanger that tore off) and I'm looking forward to next year. Here is a video link that one of the 911 guys shot on a tight stretch that we ran. It does not quite show the topography, but if you blow it up to full screen, you'll get some sensation of the road. April 17, 201212 yr comment_387366 Looks like an absolute blast man! Good on you for enjoying that Datsun. Makes me look forward to the rally I have coming up in November. Also, you just convinced me to pick up a camera to video some of my runs. I have an old GO Pro wide, but it is not HD an the sound on it just sucks. January 7, 201312 yr comment_411171 tlorber,I'm thinking of doing this in my Z. The Porsche is a bit too unruly for 1000 miles of civilization. Do both the driver and codriver need to register? April 16, 201311 yr Author comment_420729 On Saturday we completed the Targa California 2013. Just over 900 miles of beautiful roads, incredible weather and some very sweet rides. I've attached a few pictures below: On the second day we stopped at the Canepa Design Center in Scotts Valley, which is about 40 miles north of Monterrey. For those of you into car collections and restoration, this is an absolute must. The pictures below don't do justice to what you can see there, but I have attached a link as well. They are happy to provide tours of the facility. Then onto the display area, where they have one employee whose full time job it is to mop the drool off the polished concrete floor. I'll have to attach these in the next post... 20130415091905820.pdf Link to comment https://www.classiczcars.com/forums/topic/42946-941-miles-of-living-postcard/#findComment-420729 Share on other sites

April 18, 201311 yr Author comment_420878 Hardway, on the 911s registry site there are pictures of one of the entrants starting his trip on the east coast, in snow, with the car on the trailer dripping icicles. He towed the car across the country to run the event. Others drove their cars in from out of state. The point is that you are not THAT far away. The next one will be around the same time next year. It would be great to see you there so don't be shy. The whole trip cost me around $750.00 with entrance fee, the few meals that were not included, fuel, and beers. That included a cool jacket, swag bag and a few other events. I spend more on that in a given year on parts for the car.It does NOT account for the rubber that I left on the roads. January 28, 201411 yr Author comment_440547 Well, I post this notification every year and don't tend to get a lot of traction from this site but I thought I'd let y'all know about the drive coming up. This year the Targa California is being run April 24-26 through Big Bear, Palm Desert ending up somewhere near San Juan Capistrano. They have around 90 cars registered, two of which are 1600 roadsters and 2 Z's. They tend to limit out around 120 cars. It is a great opportunity to spend more time driving your car than working on it, and a great chance to see old sport metal rolling down the road.
